Acme Packet introduces Net-Net Central for managing next-generation session delivery networks

Scalable platform for managing growing family of Net-Net products and solutions

BEDFORD, MA, MARCH 14, 2011 — Acme Packet® (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session delivery network solutions, today announced its next-generation management platform, Net-Net® Central, designed to manage Acme Packet’s growing family of Net-Net products while scaling to meet the demands of today’s largest enterprise and service provider networks. Net-Net Central offers capabilities such as server clustering, “at-a-glance” dashboard summary screens and the flexibility of integrating a variety of management application “add-ons” developed by Acme Packet. Net-Net Central offers Acme Packet customers a comprehensive management approach that delivers the simplicity, scale, high availability, extensibility and flexibility needed to manage the ongoing transition to end-to-end IP session delivery networks.

“The need to manage an increasing assortment of session-based IP services and applications results in significant operations challenges for our customers,” said Seamus Hourihan, senior vice president of marketing and product management for Acme Packet. “The Net-Net Central framework offers a customizable, centralized approach for managing the growing number of solutions that utilize our products.”

System Functions and Features

Net-Net Central delivers comprehensive configuration, fault, performance and security management for Acme Packet products. Its summary and flexible device configuration views simplify the use of Net-Net Central in busy network operations centers (NOCs). Net-Net Central’s ability to manage device groups as well as individual devices creates a highly scalable and efficient model for flow-through provisioning and network-wide management of session delivery infrastructure. Server clustering delivers high performance and availability, and scales to support hundreds of managed devices per server cluster. Net-Net Central also supports an extensive range of standard interfaces, simplifying integration with third party management and OSS/BSS solutions for service fulfillment, service assurance, and billing and mediation.

Net-Net Central is comprised of its base system plus integrated management application “add-ons” that allow Acme Packet customers to selectively integrate the capabilities they need to effectively manage Acme Packet network elements and solutions. This approach simplifies element and solution management and enhances flexibility, scale and ease-of-use.

Base System

Net-Net Central’s base system features services for managing Net-Net Central’s embedded database, as well as the interfaces to its browser-based management clients, clustered Net-Net Central servers, third party management platforms and Acme Packet network elements. The base system also features a trio of applications that provide basic administrative functions for Net-Net Central servers and server clusters, management users and network devices:

  • Device Manager – simplifies the management of small to very large networks of Acme Packet products by populating and then providing basic management of Acme Packet devices and device groups within the Net-Net Central management domain.
  • Security Manager – defines and controls access rights for Net-Net Central users and user groups, and maintains an audit log for all changes.
  • Health Monitor – measures “heartbeat” and statistics related to Net-Net Central server status and disk utilization for servers configured as members of Net-Net Central server clusters.

Management Applications

The Net-Net Central framework provides Acme Packet customers with the ability to integrate a variety of management application add-ons that perform element or solution-level management related to Acme Packet products. Net-Net Central currently offers two management applications:

  • Element Manager – Net-Net Central Element Manager provides configuration, fault and performance management for Acme Packet products, which include the Net-Net 3820, 4500 and 9200 platforms along with Net-Net OS product configurations that operate on those platforms.
  • Route Manager – Acme Packet’s route provisioning and management application is used in core session routing solutions that feature Acme Packet session routing proxies and session border controllers.

As they become available, additional management applications, tailored to specific Acme Packet solutions, will be offered for optional integration, making Net-Net Central a highly versatile platform capable of managing a wide array of next-generation IP communications services and applications.
