KDDI Mobile extends period for free calls to Japan due to earthquake

KDDI Mobile will provide free voice calls made on KDDI Mobile phones from the U.S. to Japan (and within calls made within Japan) until March 31, extending this from the period previously announced.

The disaster-stricken region continues to have power outages and network issues in many areas and it is expected to be some time before water, gas and other supplies are back to normal. We ask our customers to refrain from making unnecessary calls to the region as too many calls at the same time overpower the network, making it difficult for those in need in the area to make emergency calls.

Please note that calls made using the KDDI Mobile prepaid service are not included; all calls will be charged as normal.

The following calls will not be charged:

  • Calls from the U.S. to Japan
  • Calls within Japan (using KDDI Mobile’s International Roaming Service)
