Frontier Invests $14 Million to Increase Broadband Availability and Enhance Internet Speeds in Wisconsin

SUN PRAIRIE, Wis., Mar 03, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) —

Frontier Communications (NYSE:FTR, news, filings) announced today that it invested more than $14 million in 2010 to increase broadband availability and enhance network performance in Wisconsin. The investments have resulted in an additional 15,000 Wisconsin households and businesses having broadband availability as of January 2011.

The company’s investment in facilities has transformed many of the service areas Frontier acquired last year in terms of technology and quality of life. In addition to expanding the availability of broadband, the company made major upgrades, deploying a state-of-the-art network. This enhanced network significantly increases capacity and enables customers to enjoy faster Internet speeds.

The expanded areas where broadband is now available include the majority of communities in the following major markets:

Birnamwood Greenbush Random Lake
Briggsville Hatley Saddle Ridge (Portage)
Cascade Johnsburg St. Cloud
Cedar Grove Mattoon Theresa
Eden Pickerel White Lake

“Broadband is the key to our future. We believe that broadband availability and adoption is necessary to drive the economic recovery for Wisconsin and our nation,” said Rhonda Lutzke, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Frontier’s Wisconsin operations.

“Access to broadband enhances the overall quality of life, since the Internet has become a near necessity for daily living,” added Lutzke. “Use of the Internet for safety, education, entertainment and telemedicine is huge. Frontier’s commitment to delivering broadband to rural America underscores its belief that small towns and suburbia deserve the same services as bigger cities.”

Frontier’s High-Speed Internet service is delivered on a dedicated line from the company’s central switching office to the customer’s home or business. The service is supported by local technicians and backed by live, 24/7, 100-percent U.S.-based customer service and technical support.

New residential customers ordering Frontier’s High-Speed Internet services are offered two-hour appointment windows during which a trained technician will install a Frontier wireless router, connect the customer’s computer to the Internet and offer a basic course on how to access and navigate the web.

Customers may also select one of Frontier’s Peace of Mind Services, a full array of support services that include Internet security, technical support and online data backup.
