NEW YORK, NY–(Marketwire – February 28, 2011) – TELEHOUSE America, the United States’ leading provider of dedicated data centers, international Internet exchanges, and managed IT services, announces today that its public peering interconnection, New York International Internet Exchange (NYIIX), completed its expansion into the company’s new data center facility located at 85 10th Avenue in New York on February 25, 2011. TELEHOUSE New York Chelsea, which opened January 24, 2011, is designed to exceed the expectations of companies of all sizes, while providing proximity and convenience to local businesses and access to the city’s dense telecommunication network. As the largest public Internet exchange in the New York Metro market, NYIIX offers fully redundant equipment and fiber connections to the new facility and allows for both public and private peering over Virtual LAN (VLAN) connections.
With the expansion of NYIIX into TELEHOUSE New York Chelsea, TELEHOUSE will offer customers a total of five robust peering connections in New York City, which include our other two carrier neutral data centers, located at 25 Broadway in Manhattan, and 7 Teleport Drive on Staten Island, along with 60 Hudson St and 111 8th Ave.
Established in 1996, NYIIX is one of the largest neutral Internet exchange points on the US East Coast. Its mission is to provide the Internet community with a neutral and scalable, peering infrastructure and to assure reliable and stable Internet connectivity. As of February 2011, NYIIX has over 135 active members, and operates via a seamless fabric with a 10Gigabit Ethernet interface speed between the 5 carrier hotels named above.
“Expanding NYIIX into our new carrier neutral data center facility in Chelsea is indicative of TELEHOUSE’s steadfast commitment to our customers. We now provide them with yet another cost-effective avenue of connecting to other independent networks for the exchange of data and routing information without having to use crowded public networks,” states Akio Sugeno, Vice President of Internet Engineering, Operations and Business Development. “This strategic combination of three state-of-the-art data centers — all within the New York market, greatly increases our customers’ connectivity options for accessing all parts of the globe.”
In addition to NYIIX, TELEHOUSE America also owns and operates the Los Angeles International Internet Exchange (LAIIX). LAIIX, which serves about 50 members, has a dark fiber connection to One Wilshire.
