WASHINGTON – Verizon has received the Groundbreaker Award from the Clean Economy Network Education Fund for fostering the development and adoption of new technologies and business practices that advance a clean economy.
Verizon was recognized on Monday (Jan. 24) at the Clean Economy Summit, hosted by the Clean Economy Network Education Fund.
“Verizon has a comprehensive sustainability strategy designed to find practical and innovative solutions to increase the energy efficiency and decrease the carbon footprint of our global operations,” said Kathryn Brown, Verizon senior vice president – public policy development and corporate responsibility, and the company’s chief corporate responsibility officer. “We are proud to be recognized for our efforts and are committed to using Verizon’s advanced broadband and wireless technology to help our company, consumers and communities live greener lives.”
Also on Monday, Brown was named one of the Top 10 Women in Sustainability by Little PINK Book, an online publication that provides career and life-enhancing information for working women.
Verizon’s ultra-fast, broadband, wireless and global IP networks enable more sustainable practices including replacing travel with telework and high-definition video conferencing, and facilitating e-commerce and distance learning. The company’s intelligent wireline and wireless networks and solutions can also play an essential role in deploying smart logistics, smart buildings and smart power grids.
For the past two years, Verizon has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index, which lists North America’s leading companies as measured by governance, social and environmental performance.
