XO Communications Participates in Carrier Ethernet Global Interconnect Demo

  • First Public Interoperability Test of its Kind at Ethernet Expo Americas 2010

HERNDON, VA– November 4, 2010- XO Communications (OTCBB: XOHO) announced the successful completion of the Carrier Ethernet Global Interconnect demonstration during Light Reading’s Ethernet Expo Americas in New York City on November 2 and 3. The public showcase included live demonstrations conducted through remote test management and videoconferencing between a facility in Frankfurt, Germany and collocation centers in New York City. European Advanced Networking Test Center (EANTC), in collaboration with ancotel, a Frankfurt-based telecommunications and data hub operator, and Light Reading, created the service-provider interoperability test and showcase program for 2010. The purpose of the program was to document the state-of-the-art technology, provide detailed insight into current service offerings and help accelerate market activity. XO Communications, the only U.S.-based service-provider, previewed its Ethernet capabilities by originating traffic on the XO Communications network (that traversed the Equinix Exchange at 165 Halsey in Newark, New Jersey) and delivering it to an exchange in Frankfurt before its termination to end users throughout Europe.

“We are very pleased to have been selected to participate in this live demonstration,” said Ernie Ortega, president of XO Carrier Services. “The success of this test further solidifies XO’s position as a recognized leader in the Carrier Ethernet space, which we were able to substantiate in this public forum.”

The XO Communications strategy of growing affordable off-fiber Ethernet coverage continues to resonate within the marketplace. The company has significantly expanded the availability of Ethernet services in the United States through its nationwide fiber networks, Ethernet over copper deployments in more than 75 U.S metropolitan markets and depth of broadband wireless capabilities. Through its multi-Ethernet access capabilities, XO Communications can deliver Ethernet services to nearly four million buildings and as many as ten million business locations within the U.S.

“The performance of our award winning Ethernet services and comprehensive coverage capabilities have been integral to our Ethernet sales growth and strong market position in Carrier Ethernet, ” added Ortega.
