Capacity Media Names GlobeNet as 2010 Latin America Wholesale Provider of the Year in its Annual Capacity Awards Ceremony

GlobeNet, an international wholesale provider of submarine capacity, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Oi (Bovespa: TNLP3, TNLP4, TMAR3, TMAR5, TMAR6 and NYSE: TNE), announces today that Capacity Media has selected GlobeNet as the “2010 Latin America Wholesale Provider of the Year.”  Capacity Magazine recognized GlobeNet in its annual Capacity Awards Ceremony, held last night in Amsterdam, on the first evening of Capacity Europe 2010.

The Capacity Awards recognize market leaders, such as GlobeNet, whom apply effective and innovative strategies to their wholesale businesses and have established themselves at the forefront of the telecoms industry. Capacity Media cites GlobeNet’s commitment to innovative investments supporting high quality of service throughout its network and aggressive expansion into new markets as top justifications for this prestigious distinction.

“The judges chose GlobeNet for its ongoing commitment to invest in the Latin American region; the company has opened new Points of Presence and expanded into new markets this year,” states Eira Hayward, Managing Editor of Capacity Magazine.  “GlobeNet has built out new high capacity fiber networks and is also upgrading its existing subsea cable infrastructure in order to address customer needs.”

GlobeNet’s aggressive expansion includes unique and diverse routes to Colombia, new iPOPs in São Paulo, Brazil, in Bogota, Colombia and Caracas, Venezuela, and investment in a third subsea system upgrade in response to the growing demand for bandwidth-intensive services across the Americas. In addition, GlobeNet’s upgrades will enable its clients to deploy advanced technologies such as interactive video, IPTV, gaming and cloud-based applications, especially in and throughout Latin America and between the continents of North and South America.

“By continuously investing in our network, GlobeNet ensures maximum availability and the highest quality of service across all of our subsea routes,” states Erick W. Contag, Chief Operating Officer of GlobeNet.  “Our engineering teams are dedicated to delivering the latest in technology to ensure our carrier and service provider clients have access to cutting-edge connectivity across the Americas.”

Operating one of the most reliable subsea cable systems, GlobeNet’s low latency network links cable landing stations in Tuckerton, NJ and Boca Raton, Florida, USA with cable landing stations in Fortaleza and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, St. David’s, Bermuda, as well as Maiquetía, (Caracas) Venezuela.  Built for maximum resiliency and availability, GlobeNet has never experienced a subsea cable outage.  For the complete network map, please visit www.globenet.net.
