CenturyLink Celebrates New Broadband DSL Deployment in Patrick County, Va.

Woolwine, Va. –On June 5, Congressman Boucher, State Senator Roscoe Reynolds, Virginia Delegate Ward Armstrong and members of the Patrick County Board of Supervisors joined with CenturyLink and about 100 Patrick County residents as Centurylink announced that high-speed broadband Internet service also known as “DSL” is now available to over 300 additional homes and businesses in the Woolwine area of Patrick County.  Congressman Boucher opened the event applauding CenturyLink for its efforts to deploy broadband services to Patrick County, along with other rural areas of Virginia served by CenturyLink.

Rondi Furgason, CenturyLink Vice President & General Manager for Virginia, announced, “By the end of 2010, nearly 90% of CenturyLink customers in Patrick County will have access to High-Speed Internet. CenturyLink has increased its capital spending in Patrick County over five times the level of spending in 2009.” Furgason went on to thank the federal, state and local officials for their help in creating a regulatory environment that allowed CenturyLink to make investments in rural Virginia.  She also recognized the Virginia Tobacco Commission and Mid-Atlantic Broadband Cooperative for their innovative broadband grant programs.  Those partnerships have allowed CenturyLink to provide service in areas where the business case could not be made for investment by CenturyLink alone.  “High Speed Internet is important in today’s world to keep people connected, whether at home or at work,” said CenturyLink Vice President and General Manager Rondi Furgason.  “We are pleased to expand our reliable and affordable service to Woolwine customers.  Customers can create significant savings by bundling other services such as High Speed Internet with Digital TV from DISH and Unlimited Local and Long Distance. “

Congressman Boucher stated that he was actively supporting CenturyLink’s recently-announced planned merger with Qwest.  Both Crystal Harris and Roger Hayden from the Patrick County Board of Supervisors thanked CenturyLink and the federal, state and local officials for their efforts in bringing broadband to so many Patrick County residences and businesses.
