BROOMFIELD, Colo., March 08, 2010
Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: LVLT) today announced it will provide the first-ever live streaming of an SXSW event – the Microsoft BizSpark Accelerator – on March 15-16. Using Level 3 Vyvx broadcast services and the Level 3 content delivery network (CDN), the company will stream the event for live and on-demand online viewing on the SXSW Web site.
Starting the morning of March 15, Level 3 will take the feed from the Accelerator event at the Hilton Austin Downtown, deliver the content over the Level 3 CDN and stream the event using Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Smooth Streaming and Microsoft Silverlight. A link to the stream will be available at http://sxsw.com/interactive/accelerator.
“Level 3 is a strong believer in the importance of technology innovation, so working with SXSW and Microsoft on an event designed to build awareness for new products and services was an ideal way to support that belief while showcasing the power of Level 3’s Vyvx and CDN services,” said Peter Neill, senior vice president of Content Markets at Level 3. “By providing a high-quality interactive experience for the global online audience, we will help broaden the scale of this event and foster a larger community for sharing ideas.”
For more than 20 years, Level 3’s Vyvx services have transported mission critical broadcast content to global media, advertising and entertainment customers. Level 3’s Vyvx technology, combined with the reach of Level 3’s international Internet Protocol backbone and the capabilities of its CDN platform, position the company to provide true end-to-end solutions to customers, taking their content from its creation to consumption.
“Our work with Level 3 will help bring Accelerator to an entirely new audience – an exciting prospect for both SXSW and the participants in this year’s contest,” said Katie King, Interactive Sales at SXSW. “We’re aware of Level 3’s strong track record for delivering live events, and we’re confident in their ability to provide an outstanding online viewing experience.”
Microsoft BizSpark Accelerator at SXSW, a two-day contest that takes place during SXSW Interactive, is aimed at giving companies the opportunity to showcase pioneering or emerging technology, products or services to a crowd of industry leaders.
SXSW Interactive features five days of presentations from some of the brightest minds in emerging technology, networking events hosted by industry leaders and a line-up of special programs showcasing new websites, video games and startup ideas.
