Global Colocation Solutions Provider CyrusOne Completes Steel Framework for New Building in Northern Virginia Data Center Campus

DALLAS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–

Global colocation solutions provider CyrusOne announced today that the last steel beam has been placed at its new building in Sterling, Va., completing the framework for the company’s 230,000-square-foot expansion of the Northern Virginia data center campus. In celebration of the completion, CyrusOne is hosting a traditional “topping out” ceremony today.

“Since the first building was brought online in 2015, the Northern Virginia data center campus has become one of our fastest-growing regions and a hub for many of our Fortune 1000 enterprise customers,” said Tesh Durvasula, chief commercial officer, CyrusOne. “Sterling’s location is ideal for high-performance computing due to the strong fiber connectivity, and it also has direct access to one of the largest Internet Exchange points in the U.S. By constructing this new facility to expand the campus, we are able to continue to support our customers and to grow with them as their needs and desires expand.”

Often associated with bridges and skyscrapers, modern-day steelworkers carry forward the topping-out tradition to recognize the important role their skills play in the pinnacle of a structure first being reached. The custom of placing a tree atop a completed structure arrived stateside with early immigrants to America and was also a way to celebrate barn-raisings and housewarmings. The ceremony consists of participants signing the final steel beam of the structure before it is hoisted in the air. Attendees for today’s ceremony include approximately 75 construction workers, officials, guests, and CyrusOne employees and executives.

Upon full completion in the third quarter of 2016, the building is going to span 230,000 data center square feet and is expected to offer up to 30 megawatts of power. The facility also offers Massively Modular®, CyrusOne’s one-of-a-kind engineering capabilities created specifically for achieving optimal flexibility for even the largest-scale deployment and buildout.
