Equinix Selects BTI Systems Solutions for Interconnecting Data Centers in Singapore

First Phase of Broader Deployment Leverages BTI’s Intelligent Networking Software and Systems to Scale Performance, Simplify Operations and Enable New Services

OTTAWA and BOSTON, June 17, 2013 – BTI Systems, the software and networking leader empowering content and service providers to capitalize on trends in cloud services, mobility and Internet video, today announced that Equinix, Inc. (NASDAQ:EQIX, news, filings), the global interconnection and data center company, has deployed BTI’s intelligent networking solutions to interconnect data centers in Singapore.

Equinix operates International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data centers in 31 markets across 15 countries in the Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific. The Singapore data centers provide over 347,000 sq. ft. of colocation space with access to top Singapore and global markets.

“Housing the widest selection of international and regional networks, our data centers in Singapore provide access to one of the world’s three GRX peering points and the largest Internet Exchange point in South-East Asia,” said Equinix Director of Network Engineering and Operations, APAC Raphael Ho. “Our customers include major financial institutions and network and cloud providers that rely on our data centers to support their operations. To meet strong demand from these customers, we continue to improve our data center interconnection services. BTI offered us an integrated multilayer solution with higher density and more capacity, simplified operations, and a seamless migration path to 100G.”

“We are extremely pleased to work with Equinix, one of the world’s largest providers of data center services with an unequaled reputation as a leader in powering the digital economy,” said BTI President and CEO Steve Waszak. “Cloud data center traffic is expected to grow six-fold by 2016 – with inter-data center traffic representing the equivalent of 1.7 trillion hours of online HD video streaming. And data center to data center traffic is growing three to four times faster than client to data center traffic. These factors make data center interconnections critical business enablers, allowing service providers to virtualize their compute, storage and security resources across multiple data centers as a single pool to optimize service delivery. We look forward to working closely with Equinix as the company maximizes its data center and network assets in Singapore.”

Equinix has deployed BTI’s Data Center Interconnect solution, including the BTI 7000 Series, which is a compact, modular and easy-to-use intelligent networking system purpose-built to unify packet and optical service delivery into one platform for network-layer consolidation. The BTI 7000 Series offered Equinix a scalable 10G to 100G Coherent WDM optical layer and multidegree ROADM Dynamic Optical Layer delivering any wavelength anywhere to simplify network deployment and operations. Equinix also chose the BTI proNX Management and Control Software, a modular, flexible software platform that integrates seamlessly into any operating environment to expedite service provisioning, simplify monitoring and management, and speed time to deployment. Equinix plans to move to the new BTI 7800 Series Intelligent Cloud Connect as they add 100G capabilities. Additionally, BTI will provide BTI ServiceLink Support Services, including an Advanced Replacement program, to ensure efficient deployment and assist with uninterrupted operation of Equinix’s network.

Key benefits Equinix has achieved by deploying BTI solutions for interconnecting its Singapore data centers include:

·         20% more capacity by delivering 96 channels per fiber pair

·         35% in space saving with the smallest footprint per 10G wave

·         15% reduction in power consumption

·         Operational savings and simplification through service management software

·         Elimination of the cost of an optical transponder through an integrated packet optical approach

·         Reduction of training costs and increased Quality of Service through converged packet optical layers in a single platform

·         Future-proof solution moving seamlessly from 10G to 100G

·         Fully self-configuring dynamic ROADM services, which simplify deployment and operations

BTI provides solutions that address the cloud and data center network choke points by significantly improving inter-data center connectivity between data centers and users; data centers to peering points; data centers to data centers; and data centers to partners. The company recently announced Intelligent Cloud Connect, an open software-rich platform that combines network intelligence and application awareness with significantly expanded capacity and scale. Intelligent Cloud Connect increases cloud connectivity performance – quadrupling capacity and scale, reducing latency by half, and increasing network applications performance by as much as 10 times – while significantly improving operational efficiencies, network control and service innovation compared to legacy solutions.

BTI additionally announced that Equinix CTO Lane Patterson, and BTI Vice President of Platform Solutions Chandra Pandey, will be speaking on a panel at GigaOM Structure on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. PT. BTI is also participating at CommunicAsia 2013 in Booth #BJ2-07 from June 18 through June 21.
