Softlayer Joins cloudXchange As Telx Launches Cloud Connection Centers

SoftLayer Joins Telx cloudXchange Community, Enables Telx to Offer Customers Turnkey Access to On-Demand Infrastructure Within New, SLA-Ensured Cloud Connection Centers

Cloud Computing Expo, New York, NY — June 6, 2011Telx®, a leading interconnection and data center provider in 15 strategic North American markets, today launched its new Cloud Connection Centers and announced that SoftLayer® Technologies, a global provider of on-demand Cloud and Dedicated hosting, has joined the Telx cloudXchange. Telx Cloud Connection Centers are an innovative new way for cloud service providers like SoftLayer and their Enterprise end users to securely connect their infrastructures, leveraging Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to ensure IaaS and application uptime. Through this new partnership, Telx can now directly offer any of its 880+ customers within its Cloud Connection Centers direct access to SoftLayer’s industry-leading Cloud and Dedicated Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solutions, including the popular CloudLayer® Computing offering. The launch of Telx’s Cloud Connection Centers furthers the Company’s leadership in interconnection, and establishes Telx as a formidable enabler of cloud computing.

“Telx has enjoyed a long and successful engagement with SoftLayer, as the company expanded its network footprint across several major U.S. markets leveraging our Interconnection services. This partnership is a natural extension of that relationship, and benefits both companies as well as our Enterprise customer base, who continue to consume cloud-based services,” explained Eric Shepcaro, CEO of Telx. “Working with SoftLayer helps us build a strong community of interest for our new Cloud Connection Centers, while offering our customers direct access to the industry-leading mix of SoftLayer’s services.”

As a premier Telx cloudXchange member, SoftLayer can seamlessly integrate its fully automated services by leveraging Telx’s interconnection capabilities to create hybrid solutions for customers, ensuring high redundancy, security, and limitless scalability. The Telx cloudXchange is a community of cloud service providers, carrier networks and Enterprise end-users who can connect quickly and securely in any Cloud Connection Center. Cloud service providers can deploy their offerings more cost-effectively, and can “scale up” as their cloud computing offerings evolve. Within Telx’s carrier-dense, SLA-ensured Cloud Connection Centers, cloud service providers have the power to choose the best carrier for their needs, with the most appropriate amount of latency – and can switch carriers easily if latency or customer connectivity requirements change. Telx Cloud Connection Centers offer cloudXchange members enhanced tools for space, power and network inventory management, as well as a secure customer Web portal for real-time management and collaboration with other community members.  Enterprise cloud end-users can also connect to the Telx cloudXchange to improve security and performance by leveraging the benefits of private interconnection and colocation services.

“As a cloud customer of SoftLayer and a colocation customer of Telx, we are excited by the benefits of this new partnership,” said John Muller, IT Director, OneTechnologies. “The ability for SoftLayer to seamlessly deliver on-demand services directly to our infrastructure within a Telx Cloud Connection Center gives us an optimized, highly available cloud experience. Through this partnership, we can remain focused on core competencies of our business while SoftLayer and Telx work together to manage the cloud infrastructure and connectivity service.”

“As a Telx customer ourselves, we have long valued how their colocation and interconnection solutions help optimize the reliability, security, and latency of our on-demand infrastructure,” said George Karidis, Chief Strategy Officer with SoftLayer. “We are proud Telx appreciates and trusts the power, reliability, and adaptability of our platform enough to confidently refer our services to their own customers. This partnership enables a unique, hybrid delivery model that opens new business opportunities for Telx’s customers across a variety of industries.”

Telx is a gold sponsor of the Cloud Computing Expo, June 6-9 at the Javits Convention Center in New York City.
