Lightower Announces New Network Expansion Projects in New York Metro and Southern Connecticut

Additional fiber will enable new services and lower latency routes into and around New York City from Westchester County and Connecticut

BOXBOROUGH, MA—June 21, 2011—Lightower Fiber Networks, a leading metro fiber network and bandwidth service provider, today announced two new network expansion projects in the northern New York Metro Region.  One expansion will add new fiber between New Haven, CT and Stamford, CT.  The second expansion will add a new route between Westchester County, NY and New York City.  The routes will offer customers in the area access to all Lightower services, including low latency routes into and around New York City and New Jersey.

As part of the Connecticut expansion, services will be expanded along the I-95 Corridor between Stamford and New Haven, including Norwalk, Bridgeport, and Milford.  New York services will also be expanded between Yonkers and the Bronx, including Mt. Vernon, Bronxville and Hastings.  Both expansions build upon Lightower’s already established network in the region, and will also expand the availability of dark fiber along these routes.

“We’re excited to continue our rapid expansion throughout the greater New York Metro Region,” said Rob Shanahan, President and CEO, Lightower.  “These particular network expansions add more diversity and low latency options for customers in Westchester and Southern Connecticut who need networking to New York City, New Jersey, and Long Island.  These projects also continue Lightower’s trajectory of rapid growth through network expansion and strategic acquisitions.”

Lightower continues to build and acquire assets in the New York Metro Region to offer customers the most networking options and the most comprehensive networking solutions.  These announced expansions build on other recent network expansions in Greenwich, CT, White Plains, NY, and the completion of a new, unique network route across the Hudson River.

Lightower’s New York and Connecticut network expansions offer area businesses the following features:

  • End-to-end all-fiber networking solutions
  • Ethernet services from 10 Mbps to 10 Gbps
  • Wavelength services to 40 Gbps
  • Dark fiber availability
  • Diverse routing and diverse point-of-entry options available in some locations
  • Custom designed building access, tower access, and facility access

Customers located in the new expansion areas will now be able to leverage Lightower’s end-to-end fiber networking solutions to connect to any other service location within Lightower’s footprint, including New Jersey, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.
