AT&T TO BRING 5G+ TO CUSTOMERS AT AIRPORTS NATIONWIDE
AT&T Partners with Boingo to Enhance Traveler Experience and Airport Operations with Next Generation 5G+
What’s the news? As people across the nation begin to feel more comfortable returning to travel AT&T* and Boingo Wireless are working to deploy AT&T 5G+, AT&T’s fastest mobile network, in 12 airports nationwide including such major transportation hubs as John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport. AT&T 5G+ can help accelerate and scale the adoption of next-generation consumer experiences and business applications in the travel and transportation industry.
Why is this important news? AT&T joins forces with Boingo, the largest operator of airport Wi-Fi and DAS networks in the United States, to transform the travel experience by bringing the power, speed and efficiencies of AT&T 5G+ to heavily trafficked airports nationwide. AT&T 5G+ is set to light up seven major U.S. airports in 2021, and reach 25 by the end of 2022. The companies are working to further enhance airport traveler connectivity and help increase essential airport efficiencies.
“AT&T is always working to offer services and solutions that enhance our customers’ experiences, no matter where they are or what they’re doing,” said Mo Katibeh, who leads AT&T’s Network Infrastructure and Build. “As travel picks up, we’re excited to invest in combining the power of AT&T 5G+ with Boingo Wireless’ infrastructure expertise to provide faster connectivity for both travelers and the businesses and people that are critical to running airports across the U.S.”
Also, AT&T deployed its first 5G+ airport in January and committed to work toward a total of seven airports by the end of this year.
Who can use it? AT&T customers can take advantage of the super-fast speeds, reliability, and security of 5G+ whether traveling for work, streaming an education class online or downloading the entire season of FRIENDS to watch on their tablet. The ongoing airport initiative will provide 5G+ coverage at major gate and concession spaces, where travelers and airport employees have the greatest need.
“The connected airport of the future is here, and passengers are looking for a seamless, secure, touchless experience with powerful, fast wireless connectivity throughout their entire journey. In addition, 5G’s speed and capacity enables airports to transform business operations for greater cost savings and efficiencies,” said Mike Finley, Boingo CEO. “We are extremely proud to bring AT&T’s advanced 5G network to Boingo’s long-term airport partners nationwide. This widescale 5G deployment has the ability to spark airport innovation at every level and reimagine the travel experience.”
“In Chicago, cutting-edge technology is an airport priority, and we’re pleased to partner with Boingo and AT&T to bring 5G connectivity to O’Hare and Midway travelers. With ample speed and bandwidth for travelers to download movies, work remotely, and tap into all the perks of their mobile devices, 5G at Chicago O’Hare and Midway is providing an improved and convenient travel experience,” said Chicago Department of Aviation Commissioner Jamie L. Rhee.
What’s Next For AT&T in Travel?
The investment to bring 5G+ to airports nationwide is part of AT&T’s continued dedication to help elevate the way people travel and work within airports and on the go. That’s why we’re also announcing our commitment to launch 5G+ at Dallas Love Field Airport and Los Angeles Airport (LAX) in the coming months. Also, we are planning to bring the power of 5G+ to Denver International Airport as well.
In addition, we recently announced our collaboration with Apple and Delta Airlines to bring 5G to the commercial airline industry by equipping their 19,000+ flight attendants with iPhone 12 so they can enjoy the power of AT&T’s nationwide 5G network.
