Portland, Ore. – Feb. 28, 2011 – Integra Telecom Inc., a fiber-based, wholesale and retail telecommunications provider for business, has named Tom Casey chief executive officer.
Casey has been the chairman of the board of Integra Telecom since 2009 and will remain a director. He most recently served as the president and chief executive officer of Current Group LLC, headquartered in Germantown, Md.
Casey replaces Dudley Slater, the co-founder and CEO of Integra since 1998. Slater will remain on Integra’s board of directors as vice chairman.
“Growing Integra from nine employees to become one of the leading telecom companies in the country has been a wonderful and rewarding experience. I’m sincerely grateful to our customers, employees and management team,” said Slater. “I look forward to the future success of the company and providing assistance in my role as vice chairman of the board.”
“Integra has a deservedly high reputation as a result of the work that Dudley Slater and the management team have done,” said Casey, incoming CEO. “I look forward to building on the company’s strong network of fiber assets and robust IP network to continue to expand our portfolio of managed services offered to local and regional customers.”
Prior to Current Group LLC, Casey served as the chief executive officer of One Communications Inc., and chairman and chief executive officer at Choice One Communications. He has also held the positions of managing director in the telecom and media investment banking group at Merrill Lynch and partner in the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom. Additionally, he was an attorney in the Antitrust Division, U.S. Department of Justice and at the Federal Communications Commission, where he served as the deputy chief, Common Carrier Bureau and assistant to the FCC chairman and assistant to the chief of the Cable Television Bureau. Casey has a bachelor’s degree from Boston College and a law degree from George Washington University Law School.
“Integra’s core value of customer service will continue to drive the company as we offer the most value-creating portfolio of services. Our powerful sales force will continue to perform at industry leading levels as we offer even more capable services, products and applications,” said Casey. “Integra is ideally suited to capitalize on the many new opportunities in managed services, cloud-based applications and IP fiber network services for further growth. I look forward to working with my new colleagues to realize that growth for the benefit of our customers, employees and stakeholders.”
Jim Huesgen, who has been with Integra since 2000, will remain president of Integra and will work closely in supporting Casey in his new role as CEO. Casey’s former position as chairman of the board of Integra will be filled by Kevin O’Hara, who is formerly the president and chief operating officer of Level 3 Communications Inc. O’Hara has been a member of Integra’s board since 2009 and serves on the boards of Elemental Technologies and RigNet (NASDAQ: RNET).
