[London, UK, February 25, 2020] The 5G Digital Factory Solution jointly developed by China Unicom and Huawei win GSMA’s “5G Industry Partnership Award”. The solution makes full use of 5G’s high bandwidth and low latency capabilities to improve production efficiency and reduce costs, and promote digital transformation of factory.
China Unicom, Huawei, and industry partners have jointly launched the 5G Digital Factory Innovation. They were the first to utilize 5G technology to meet industrial manufacturing application requirements. In typical industrial scenarios such as production, testing, logistics, and security, the innovation has greatly facilitated the digital transformation of the factory.
The joint innovation uses 5G network as the digital factory foundation and apply 5G technology to test data analysis, equipment software loading, production automation, transparent logistics, and security monitoring in the production process, thereby improve efficiency and reduce costs. MEC equipment is deployed inside the factory to ensure data security. It uses 5G network to transmit large quantities of test data in 30 min, vs 4 hours for wired connection. Thus, it shortens the upload time by 85% and improve the overall efficiency off test device by more than 20%. The 1 Gbps data rate of 5G network in the factory makes it possible to download the product software without changing the production timeline despite an anticipated 10x growth in the software package. In addition, 5G unified the factory’s communication technologies to address challenges in coverage, capacity, mobility, reliability, deployment period and cost of WIFI and wired network, further improving the efficiency of factory production and management, and reducing costs.
The high bandwidth, massive connection, high reliability and low latency capability make 5G the best option for wireless networks in the industrial Internet. It is estimated that by 2026, the proportion of wireless connections in industrial communication connections will reach 58%, of which 5G will play an important role. 5G is one of the key enabling technologies driving the industrial Internet and accelerating the digital transformation of industry, and the Industrial Internet will accelerate the large scale commercialization of 5G.
Huawei has collaborated with operators and partners to explore 5G applications in dozens of vertical industries, including smart factory, intelligent connected vehicle, smart medical, smart grid, smart education, city security, drones, smart agriculture, smart new media, etc. With the global deployment of 5G networks and the participation of more partners, the industry application of 5G will become clearer.
