Washington, D. C. – Today, Representative Norma Torres (D-CA) introduced the “911 Saves Act,” a bill that would direct the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to reclassify 9-1-1 call takers and dispatchers (currently known as “Public Safety Telecommunicators”) as “Protective Service Occupations.”

The following statement may be attributed to Robert Fisher, Senior Vice President, Federal Government Affairs, Verizon:

The 911 SAVES Act recognizes the vital contribution to public safety and disaster relief efforts that 9-1-1 operators and dispatchers make every day. At Verizon, we are committed to helping our public safety partners across the U.S. in the important, life-saving work they do in their communities. We applaud this initiative by Rep. Torres and look forward to working with her and other members of Congress to ensure our public safety telecommunicators get their due recognition.
