Ericsson UDN and Mode announce edge compute ecosystem partnership

Ericsson UDN is announcing a new ecosystem partnership with Mode, a San Francisco-based start-up that has built a remarkable private network cloud service for businesses, to deliver a new category of global enterprise network.

Fortune 500 businesses face the daunting task of trying to manage multiple networks to achieve the right combination of reliability, flexibility, and affordability. These enterprises have been searching for a lower-cost option that maintains the reliability and security of a traditional Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network but provides the flexibility of a cloud service. To address this opportunity, Ericsson UDN and Mode have announced an edge compute ecosystem partnership to deliver a new category of global enterprise network.

Ericsson’s Unified Deliver Network (UDN), known for its Content Delivery Network solution, also offers powerful edge computing capabilities. These capabilities have been combined with Mode’s unique routing algorithms to produce a highly efficient private core network, offered as a cloud service. This self-service cloud private network enables enterprises, security providers, network optimization providers, and other service providers to overcome some of the performance issues of the open internet, as well as the costs and inflexibility of traditional private networks.

Marcus Bergström, VP and GM Ericsson UDN, says: “We’re proud to have discovered and on-boarded Mode to help add value immediately to our existing customer base. Mode saw immediate value and scale of running its breakthrough routing technology on our modern edge compute platform that is built in partnership with service providers globally.”

Paul Dawes, Mode CEO, explains “Mode HALO is a routing breakthrough that redefines the limits of network performance. We were never going to compromise with the network underneath us. Ericsson UDN is a remarkable performance-first edge compute network that offers ultra-low latency performance, global ingress and egress, and high availability. Mode’s technology can really push a network, and the Unified Delivery Network always performs well.”

The new ecosystem partnership not only helps current Ericsson UDN customers and service provider partners but also will provide incubation for the next wave of edge technologies. According to a 2018 report by Orbis Research, the global cloud private network market is expected to reach USD 35.73 billion by the end of 2022, growing at a CAGR of 14.77% percentage between 2016 and 2022.

Ericsson UDN is a live global network for content delivery built on modern edge compute technologies. Ericsson UDN is live today in 30 countries with the Mode Core available now in customer beta.
