We build reliability into every aspect of our Network because we know you count on us to stay connected, especially in times of extreme weather. The importance of that resiliency was never more evident than during Hurricanes Harvey and Irma and the wildfires in California – when individuals, businesses, emergency responders and government agencies depended on our Network to send a text message or make a call.
Why it matters to you
When you need us most, we have your back – whether that’s navigating to a soccer game or surviving a storm.
That critical reliability has once again been confirmed. The initial testing results of the Top 125 U.S. cities by leading independent scientific testing firm RootMetrics® are in. No surprise, Verizon’s Network is unbeaten in reliability performance 91 percent of the time – that’s 91 of 100 cities tested since July 1. For comparison, that’s more than double the awards of the nearest competitor and nearly four times that of the discount networks.
Here’s what the reliability award includes: RootMetrics measures if a smartphone can successfully connect to the provider’s network and complete a “task” such as going online, making a call or sending a text message. This type of “drive testing” is most credible because all four national wireless providers’ networks are tested, at the same time in the same locations.
Verizon rated tops in more metros in overall network performance
RootMetrics also rates the top overall network in each city. Once again, Verizon’s Network is the top performer, unbeaten 79 percent of the time in overall network performance, or in 79 of 100 cities tested.
Some of the cities in which our customers are getting the best wireless Network performance and reliability include:
Atlanta
Boston
Chicago
Columbus
Dallas
Denver
Minneapolis
New York City and the Tri-State Area
Pittsburgh
San Francisco
Washington D.C.
These results don’t happen by chance. They’re the result of careful year-round planning, investment in the latest technologies and engineering for what I call predictable excellence. That means Verizon’s Network provides the most 4G LTE coverage – more than 700,000 more square miles than T-Mobile – unrivaled reliability and the consistently fast speeds that our customers need.
How do we continue to be ranked as the best, most reliable Network year after year? Take a look inside our hurricane prep playbook. Why do we do it? To keep you connected when it matters most.
During the recent hurricanes and wildfires, in the hardest hit areas of south Texas, more than 98 percent of our Network facilities were in service during the height of the storm. In Florida, close to 90 percent of our facilities remained operational over the first days after the storm, and returned to normal network performance within five days. In California, despite the most deadly wildfires in recent history, our Network remained at 97 percent service and was fully restored within six days. I’m proud of the dedication of our employees, some of whom had lost their homes, who went above and beyond to keep our Network strong.
*Rankings based on 100 RootMetrics® Metro RootScore® Reports: 2H 2017. Tested with best commercially available smartphones on 4 national mobile networks across all available network types. Your experiences may vary. The RootMetrics award is not an endorsement of Verizon.
