AAPT & EDGECAST NETWORKS’ PARTNERSHIP BRINGS GLOBAL CONTENT DELIVERY TO AUSTRALIAN MARKET

  • Australian companies can now deliver content directly to end users from servers around the world

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA AND SANTA MONICA, CA – April 14, 2010 — EdgeCast Networks, the world’s fastest and most reliable content delivery network (CDN) and AAPT, one of Australia’s largest telecommunications providers, today announced a joint agreement to open EdgeCast’s global network to AAPT’s Australian customers.

The alliance immediately positions AAPT as the premier provider of global CDN services and enhanced local content delivery services in Australia.

“With the dramatic increase in demand for streaming video, images and other content through a range of devices, such as SmartPhones, iPhones and the upcoming release of the iPad, we’re offering our customers a content delivery solution with a fast, scalable, and trusted content delivery platform,” says David Yuile, Chief Operating Officer, AAPT.

The EdgeCast network interconnects with more than 850 user networks around the world, allowing content to be served from a cache server in the network the end user is connected to, completely bypassing the congested public internet.

It also eliminates the need for Australian content providers to invest in costly infrastructure and agreements with numerous global CDNs for local distribution.

“Our partnership with EdgeCast is not only about improving the experience of rich media for end users in Australia, but also increasing competition in the rapidly-growing local CDN market,” Mr. Yuile says.

“Customers are able to take advantage of the elasticity of this cloud-based service, flexing the space they need for their content as required.”

The combination of EdgeCast’s technology and AAPT’s national tier-1 network connects directly to every network in Australia – small or large – ensuring local internet users have immediate access to AAPT’s customers’ content.

“Australia is a unique market with its geographic spread and network topology that makes delivering content challenging. This Platform as a Service (PaaS) offering is optimised for super-fast, high-quality delivery for local customers – essentially bringing content as close as possible to the end user for a greater experience,” says Mr. Yuile.

James Segil, co-founder and president of EdgeCast Networks, says the partnership signals the creation of the most powerful content delivery solution in the Australian market.

“AAPT customers can now be sure that even their largest media files will be delivered quickly to any computer or mobile device anywhere in the world,” Segil says. “Latency is reduced and the throughput increased, supporting the latest cutting-edge caching and streaming technology and ensuring super fast web browsing and streaming for end users.”

AAPT customers can instantly provision media streams and deliver content from any of EdgeCast’s points of presence around the world, including Los Angeles, New York, Frankfurt, London, and Amsterdam.

“Customers will also have access to our EC360 Analytics Suite, a new reporting package which provides unprecedented real-time visibility into global media and site performance, bandwidth usage, and user behavior,” says Mr. Segil.

The service is available from AAPT now, with a free trial offer to existing and prospective customers.
