Brett Lindsey, Amplify Panelists Discuss Investment in Downtown Cleveland

CLEVELAND–June 30, 2017–“My Cleveland love affair has been going on for about 20 years,” said Brett Lindsey, president and chief executive officer, Everstream, in his opening remarks at this week’s Amplify Speaker Series luncheon, titled “Why now is a good time to invest in downtown Cleveland.”

Lindsey participated in the panel discussion along with Shannon Lyons, chief operating officer, Flashstarts, Adam Speck, vice president, Quicken Loans – Cleveland Web Center, and Cheryl Wearsch, asset manager, Key Center, The Millennia Companies. Michael Deemer, executive vice president, business development, Downtown Cleveland Alliance, served as the facilitator.

“I’ve often said that Cleveland didn’t have the confidence that it should,” Lindsey said. “When we host companies from out of town, they are blown away by the city.”

For its part, Everstream will have invested $12 million in Ohio this year alone, including building fiber into more than 40 buildings in downtown Cleveland.

Lindsey noted the company’s conscious decision to be downtown, which is closely connected to Everstream’s culture.

“We wanted to have that energy that comes with having offices downtown,” he said. “We want tons of restaurants, great places to live, a variety of options to host corporate events, and the ability to walk to Cleveland’s sports venues. For Everstream, it would be tough to maintain our culture if we weren’t downtown.”

The company relocated its corporate headquarters from Cleveland’s Warehouse District to the historic Halle Building, 1228 Euclid Ave.,—the flagship store of the former local department store chain—in Playhouse Square in April 2016. Everstream added 20 new team members in the process.

Lindsey also praised events like the Amplify Speaker Series for helping to keep a finger on the pulse of business and industry in Cleveland.

“The sheer mass of jobs being added only helps to fuel excitement in the city,” he noted. “Corporate growth increases the number of people who want to live downtown, which maintains high occupancy rates on downtown apartments being built and, in turn, allows residents and employees to continue fueling the economy in downtown Cleveland.”

The next Amplify Speaker Series luncheon will be held in August.
