For the second year in a row, Calix AXOS innovations honored as part of the industry’s leading awards program
AUSTIN, TX – May 16, 2017 – Calix, Inc. (NYSE:CALX, news, filings), the world leader in Subscriber Driven Intelligent Access, today announced that the AXOS E3-2 Intelligent PON Node was honored as “Most Innovative New Cable Product” by Light Reading at its annual Leading Lights Awards dinner last night at the Big Communications Event (BCE) in Austin, Texas. Part of the same Software Defined Access (SDA) architecture and driven by the same underlying AXOS operating system that was awarded “Most Innovative SDN Product Strategy (Vendor)” at the 2016 Leading Lights Awards, the E3-2 brings the power of the world’s only true SDA to cable operators. Purpose built to seamlessly integrate into existing cable network architectures and service delivery models, the E3-2 features integrated support for OLT, routing, IP policy, and accounting functions. The node-based E3-2 allows cable operators to make the transition to an all-fiber network, rapidly deliver new services, and quickly pivot to take advantage of SDN in their access network.
“For the second year in a row, the innovations enabled by AXOS have been honored with Leading Lights Awards, with the AXOS E3-2 highlighting our commitment to delivering PON solutions for cable operators,” said Shane Eleniak, vice president of systems products at Calix. “Today, the E3-2 allows cable operators to realize the cost savings and inherent efficiencies of operating an intelligent distributed access network while at the same time, laying a foundation for a seamless transition to the network architectures of the future. When the E3-2 is combined with AXOS DPx, the industry’s first DOCSIS VNF based on a microservices architecture, cable operators can accelerate their move to SDN through a simple plug and play approach, delivering a true symmetrical gigabit experience with minimal back office disruption.”
By utilizing the combination of the modular architecture of AXOS software with AXOS DPx, the E3-2 delivers the ultimate in operational flexibility, supporting anyPON™ and anySDN™technology. While the E3-2 integrates with existing DOCSIS back office systems, the NETCONF interfaces and standards-based YANG models of AXOS DPx facilitate virtualized architectures in a SDN multi-vendor, multi-technology environment. The E3-2 also complements a distributed access architecture (DAA), which is being deployed by cable operators. With a distributed model, which places network intelligence closer to subscriber edge, the E3-2 catalyzes the consolidation of existing facilities and can dramatically alter a service provider’s operational cost structure.
Now in its 13th year, the Leading Lights is the communications industry’s leading awards program. Light Reading’s reputation for fiercely independent analysis makes this the most credible and authoritative awards program in the communications industry. This year, Light Reading recognized the industry’s top companies and their executives for their outstanding achievements in next-generation communications technology, applications, services, strategies, and innovations in 23 categories.
