Data Foundry Tests IPv6 at NANOG48

Recently, Data Foundry proudly hosted the latest meeting of NANOG (North American Network Operators’ Group) in Austin, TX. The event was a huge success with a worldwide attendee list coming together to discuss best practices and new technologies that will improve the quality of networks in today’s Internet centric world.

One of the new technologies tested at NANOG48 was IPv6. The current IPv4 space is relatively small and is running out of available subnets for new allocations. IPv6 was created with this limitation in mind to address growing global addressing needs. Data Foundry implemented native IPv6 routing alongside its IPv4 transit as part of providing Internet connectivity for NANOG48. Partnering with tw telecom Data Foundry provided bandwidth to allow attending operators to stay connected to their home networks and the Internet over either IPv4 or IPv6.

Once Data Foundry completes additional testing of IPv6, Data Foundry will provide IPv6 access to all of its co-location and ISP customers. The IPv6 infrastructure will provide Data Foundry’s customers access to billions of globally unique IP addresses, instead of merely hundreds. This will enable Data Foundry’s customers to build larger networks and expand without the old restrictions of IPv4.

Data Foundry Hosts NANOG48

NANOG48 is a gathering of senior network engineers, operators, and researchers from companies like Giganews, Google (GOOG), Equinix (EQIX), Akamai (AKAM), tw telecom (TWTC), Comcast (CMCSA/CMCSK), and many others who present, debate, and discuss the technology already deployed or soon-to-be deployed to the Internet. NANOG is a relatively small contingent of Internet insiders from Tier 1 and Tier 2 Internet service providers (ISPs), as well as others connected to ISP networking. Data Foundry sponsored the latest meeting in Austin TX.
