ADVA Optical Networking announced today that MEDIA BROADCAST, Germany’s leading media and broadcasting service provider, has deployed the ADVA FSP 3000 to power its scalable fiber optic backbone throughout Germany. The technology is being used to transport data services, uncompressed high-quality video and audio services directly on the optical network. Native video transmission on the physical layer radically simplifies the process of transporting media data by eliminating costly conversion methods and removing signal degradation. The ADVA FSP 3000 transport solution is unique as it features multichannel audio digital interface (MADI) technology to route up to 64 discrete digital audio signals integrated in the optical transport layer.
“Having the freedom to transport video and audio in its native format puts our customers in a fantastic position. It enables them to transmit content between production sites, event locations and studios in the highest quality,” said Daniel Wolbers, group manager, transport and infrastructure, MEDIA BROADCAST. “We expect that the demand for uncompressed video transmission will increase further. That’s why we decided to upgrade our backbone. Now we’re prepared for the future and can continue to deliver brilliant performance according to the needs of our customers.”
MEDIA BROADCAST’s backbone network will support high-performance transmission of any traffic protocol, including HD-SDI and 3G-SDI video and multiple audio signals with MADI devices. The network utilizes each optical wavelength to transmit a variety of video, audio and data channels simultaneously. MEDIA BROADCAST has already used the ADVA FSP 3000’s capabilities to build tailor-made transport solutions for some of Germany’s major media enterprises. These include new contribution networks for public broadcasters Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg and Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk and the transmission of live Bundesliga games for Westdeutscher Rundfunk via ADVA FSP 3000 access links connecting all stadiums to the nationwide backbone.
“MEDIA BROADCAST is deeply committed to innovation. They believe in harnessing the most advanced technology available to help broadcasters connect with audiences and share their vision,” commented Thomas Schneider, director, enterprise business development, ADVA Optical Networking. “Now everything from breaking news to groundbreaking TV drama can be transported at the lowest latency and viewed in perfect HD quality. The power to transmit raw, uncompressed video and audio formats frees MEDIA BROADCAST’s customers to do what they do best. It enables them to be creative, to be daring, to deliver exciting content that they know their audiences will love. What’s more, the modular design of our FSP 3000 means MEDIA BROADCAST will be able to scale to 100Gbit/s and beyond in the future.”
