WASHINGTON – CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE:CTL, news, filings) announced that application server solutions from GENBAND™, a leading provider of real time communications solutions, are now available as part of CenturyLink’s Networx contracts.
The General Services Administration (GSA)’s Networx program includes the largest telecommunications contract vehicles ever awarded by the federal government. CenturyLink recently secured an extension through spring 2020 of its offerings available to federal government agencies via GSA’s Networx Universal and Enterprise contracts.
GENBAND’s EXPERiUS™ Application Server, which was recently certified by the Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC), significantly enhances the end-user experience by providing fully-featured multimedia communications applications and integrating voice, video, instant messaging, presence, mobility, conferencing and collaboration over any network or any device.
The JITC is the U.S. Department of Defense’s joint interoperability certifier and the only non-service level operational test center for information technology and national security systems.
The GENBAND Application Server solution provides military-grade resiliency with standards-based controls that can meet the needs of the largest defense deployments. The technology eliminates proprietary endpoints and applications, enabling choice and competition while reducing costs.
Many government communications systems are deployed with legacy Nortel equipment that is reaching the end of its service life and replacing the entire solution can be cost-prohibitive. GENBAND, which acquired the Nortel Carrier business in 2010, offers a new option for Nortel and legacy communications migrations that can protect elements of existing deployments.
GENBAND’s newly JITC-certified Application Server is the heart of that capability, offering a virtualized architecture that can be deployed via cost-effective commercial off-the-shelf hardware, either on premises or in a private cloud.
“CenturyLink is excited to add GENBAND’s Application Server solutions to our Networx contracts so that together, we can help government agencies manage and upgrade their communications networks,” said CenturyLink Senior Vice President and General Manager Tim Meehan, who leads the company’s federal government team. “JITC certification means that CenturyLink’s government customers know they can trust this solution.”
“Only the most trusted products and services achieve JITC certification – it means that your solution has successfully survived the most strenuous tests imaginable,” said GENBAND Executive Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing Patrick Joggerst. “We are delighted to work with CenturyLink to help government agencies successfully migrate legacy communications networks to next-generation technology. Because of GENBAND’s shared Nortel heritage with many existing government communications systems, we are uniquely qualified to provide them with a compelling transition option and a cost-effective way to migrate legacy communications networks to the latest in Unified Communications (UC) and collaboration solutions.”
By supplying cloud and managed hosting services over its carrier-class network, CenturyLink is able to provide government agencies with the security and reliability they need to carry out their missions. CenturyLink is ranked No. 34 on Washington Technology’s 2016 Top 100 list of federal government IT contractors.
