Former Verizon Wireless New York metro regional president Pat Devlin joins Sprint as president of the Northeast Area, and former Verizon Wireless Florida region president Mariano Legaz joins Sprint as chief procurement officer. Devlin will report to Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure, and Legaz will report to CFO Tarek Robbiati.

Based in New York, Devlin will be responsible for sales strategy, network oversight, customer service, marketing communications and general operations supporting the full portfolio of Sprint products and services from enterprise to consumer across 12 northeastern states, including eastern Pennsylvania.

Devlin will lead one of the four geographic areas – West, Central, Northeast and South – Sprint created when it reorganized to devote targeted resources to 18 top regions. Under Devlin’s leadership, the area, which includes Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., will develop market-specific offerings that serve the needs of consumer and business customers in the Northeast.

The Northeast geographic area covers Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and eastern Pennsylvania. It encompasses more than 980 Sprint-branded retail stores.

“Sprint’s regional structure is gaining momentum and is proving to be an effective way to bring us closer to our customers and serve them better. Pat has a strong track record of driving wireless sales and growing market share. His ties to the Northeast will help us compete and win in this area,” said Claure.

As chief procurement officer, Legaz will be responsible for sourcing, procurement and supply chain management across the organization. Under his leadership, Sprint will maximize supplier relationships and drive operational efficiencies.

“Mariano comes to Sprint with a wealth of experience and knowledge in leading global procurement efforts. His ability to identify and realize cost-saving opportunities will be instrumental in helping drive Sprint’s turnaround strategy.”

“I’m proud of the world-class leadership team we have in place at Sprint, and we’re pleased to have Pat and Mariano on board. Their industry acumen and strong desire to win make them a great fit for the team.”

Throughout his career he has held a variety of leadership positions in sales, operations and distribution. He also was in various sales and operations roles at Bell Atlantic, which merged with GTE Corp. to create Verizon in 2000. Before Bell Atlantic, he was an auditor at accounting consultancy Coopers & Lybrand, a predecessor to PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

“Sprint is going through a remarkable transformation, and I’m excited to be part of the team. Our localization initiative is about delivering the best possible experience for customers, and I look forward to leading these efforts in the Northeast.”
