PEG Bandwidth, LLC proudly hosted its 3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament benefiting Mighty Oakes Heart Foundation (MOHF) on Oct. 22. The charity golf tournament, held at The Tribute Golf Club in The Colony, TX, raised more than $68,000 this year. That brings the grand total for the past three years to $273,000+ for MOHF.
In 2011, PEG Bandwidth Co-Founder and SVP of Sales & Marketing, Greg Ortyl, along with his wife Becky, founded MOHF. They were blessed with a son, Oakes Lee Ortyl, early that year who became the namesake and acorn from which the tree of MOHF has grown and flourished. Oakes was born with a congenital heart defect – the number one birth defect in the United States. During his short 15 months of life, Oakes endured several major procedures, including two open-heart surgeries and a double-lung transplant. During this time, even when things were really tough, the Ortyl family felt blessed to have a myriad of resources and wide-ranging support. They also recognized that many families in similar situations are not nearly as fortunate.
While Oakes was receiving care at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Greg and Becky met families that were going through similar situations, but lacked the financial support to be with their children while in the hospital. It was this fact that inspired the Ortyls to establish MOHF in honor of Oakes. The mission of MOHF is to assist families with both financial and emotional support, with 100 percent of the net tournament proceeds going directly to support those families.
For the third straight year, the golf tournament was organized by PEG’s PR Firm, Jaymie Scotto and Associates, and was a huge success – despite some rainy weather. The golfers got out on the course for a few hours and enjoyed the game with the knowledge they were supporting this amazing cause. Along with the usual participants, Becky was in attendance this year with the Ortyls’ two beautiful little girls – Isla and Esme.
As is the case every year, PEG was proud to put on this great event for an incredible cause. We admire the Ortyl family for all they have done, and continue to do, for families that have children with congenital heart defects. It is a great honor to do our part to support their mission. And we feel Becky described it best when she recently wrote on the MOHF website –
“I see Oakes in both of his sisters,” Becky said. “I see him in his Dad. I see him in me. I see him in his cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. I see him every time I see a little heart in nature, or I spot a heart in my everyday routines. I see him in the kids and families that Mighty Oakes Heart Foundation helps, I see him in all of his nurses (and their new little babies). I see him in Oak trees and acorns. I see him in my dreams. I see him in everyday little miracles. I see him everywhere, and I see him everyday. And every time I see him, I feel him. I feel his strength, his amazingness, his drive. I feel him nudging me along. I feel him loving me.”
