NAB CONFERENCE, LAS VEGAS NV – April 12, 2010 – Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:AKAM, news, filings), the leader in powering video, dynamic transactions and enterprise applications online, today announced that since the Akamai HD Network launch in September 2009, leading companies in the digital media ecosystem have successfully tested, integrated and supported the Akamai HD Network. The Akamai HD Network leverages VAR, solution and technology companies to provide an end-to-end solution, including signal acquisition, encoding, content management, mobile support, video delivery, pre-built and custom video players, and analytics.
“Akamai recognizes the importance of the ecosystem and is committed to providing our customers with a complete solution in the Akamai HD Network,” said Suzanne Johnson, Director of Industry Marketing at Akamai. “With these relationships in place, the complexity of bringing live and on-demand events and high definition content online is minimized for our customers and the time to market reduced.”
Inlet Technologies, AEG, ClipSync, IBM, iStreamPlanet, mDialog, Ooyala and Origin Digital have each been involved in supporting large scale events on the Akamai HD Network events to date including NBC’s coverage of the Vancouver Olympics, MTV Network’s Hope for Haiti Now concert, IFC.com’s live coverage of the South by Southwest Festival and NFL Thursday Night Football. Akamai is also working closely with All Digital, Azuki Systems, Digital Rapids, Kaltura, Kit Digital, Kulabyte, The Platform and VMIX to support future events and content delivered across the Akamai HD Network.
Akamai’s HD Network was developed with the goal of delivering the highest quality experience at broadcast audience scale¹ across the industry’s most popular devices, platforms and runtimes, and enabling large-scale broadcasters and film distributors to increase audience engagement and expand revenues through higher quality video playback and interactivity. Akamai’s HD Network was further designed to allow content owners and publishers to deliver live and on-demand content while leveraging an infrastructure of tens of thousands of HTTP servers deployed globally in ISP servers.
