NTT America’s Global IP Network Optimized for High Quality Video Delivery

Company Executive Speaks at OTTcon East
Category: GIN

New York, NY –  NTT America, a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), and a global IP network services provider, today announced the company’s Global IP Network Business Unit vice president, Michael Wheeler, will speak at the OTTcon East conference at the Atlanta Conference Center Holiday Inn Select in Atlanta, Georgia.  Mr. Wheeler will speak on the topic of “Leveraging Infrastructure Assets to Get with the Program,”on Thursday, June 17, 2010 from 3:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. EDT.  Via the NTT Communications Global IP Network, NTT America delivers and anticipates network performance solutions for companies in the content delivery and Internet infrastructure industries, where consumer demand for high-definition video and rich media content delivered online, to mobile devices or via over-the-top (OTT) TV is growing at unprecedented rates.

OTTcon East is solely dedicated to providing in-depth perspectives and critical analysis surrounding the OTT TV and video market.  The conference will focus on how OTT is redefining the future of TV and entertainment services and how the disruptive nature of OTT is challenging the business models of pay TV operators, consumer electronics manufacturers, content owners and others.  The conference will provide a forum for leading innovators, analysts and technology experts to address the key technical and market issues faced by strategic planners who are confronted with a myriad of critical business and technology issues in the increasingly disaggregated world of video entertainment.  Conference attendees will include OTT service providers, multiple system operators (MSOs), satellite and telecommunications companies, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), content delivery networks (CDNs) and broadband providers.
“How we watch television is changing dramatically, but what consumers have come to expect in terms of quality is not,” said Michael Wheeler, vice president of the Global IP Network for NTT America.  “Our goal as a service provider is to make certain that our network exceeds the expectations of our CDN, ISP and infrastructure customers so their end users have a seamless over-the-top video experience.”

During the panel, Mr. Wheeler will address opportunities for media and entertainment companies, ISPs and infrastructure providers seeking optimal network architecture for content distribution and delivery worldwide.  He’ll talk about why flexibility in shaping bandwidth, connections and pricing are fundamental to containing costs.  Attendees will learn how to combine their provider’s infrastructure assets (technology investments, financial depth, and international access) with their own assets to successfully deliver OTT TV and video, as well as other new applications.  The resulting combination can provide new levels of network speed, reliability, and quality that can redefine a company’s growth strategies.  Mr. Wheeler will also give a glimpse into the future, touching on how new advances in IPv6 and 100GigE provide a platform to give broadcasters, ISPs and infrastructure providers a competitive advantage.

In his role as vice president, Mr. Wheeler is responsible for leading the Global IP Network Business Unit, including all facets of finance, engineering and customer relations.  The Global IP Network (GIN) Business Unit operates one of the leading Global Tier-1 Internet backbones and offers direct IP transit connections to telecommunications companies, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), content providers, Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), enterprises and Web hosting companies.  (Note: To view the NTT Communications Global IP Network, visit: http://www.ntt.net/english/about/network_map.cfm.)
