It was another year of extravagant parades, food festivals, and other celebratory events at Mardi Gras in New Orleans over the past two weeks. AT&T customers were out in full force— sharing their favorite moments with friends and family on their mobile devices.
During the Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans, AT&T customers used more than 11 terabytes (TB) of mobile data. That’s equivalent to more than 32 million social media posts with photos.*
To prepare for the increase in mobile demand during Mardi Gras, we deployed four Cell on Light Trucks (COLTs). We also have a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) in the French Quarter, which helped keep revelers connected. These network enhancements, along with doubling our LTE network capacity in the area, helped improve reliability and data speeds for customers as the event ran through February 17.
*total data includes data used by AT&T customers only during Mardi Gras events on February 2/7-2/17 on the four COLTs (Cell on Light Truck) and the oDAS in the French Quarter.
