Mexico City, January 29, 2015. – In order to offer a broad and reliable Internet connection to their community, the Universidad Panamericana chose Cisco® technology for its campus in Mexico City.
The deployment includes Cisco Aironet™ Access Points (APs) that offer customers an easy-to-install, single-band 802.11g radio. The APs features enterprise-class management, security, and scalability. Additionally, the university’s deployment of Cisco Catalyst 4500 L3 switch enables converged wired-wireless access to support Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and mobility as well as a variety of performance enhancements and security.
Universidad Panamericana is a private university with almost 12,000 students in 33 programs. It has presence in the cities of Guadalajara, Aguascalientes and Mexico City, where it has two campuses, one in the south, known as the Mexico City Campus, and one in the west, called Campus Santa Fe.
The university’s wireless network al Mexico City Campus connects 6,000 students and academy members who now enjoy connectivity across the campuses, facilitating their activities such as access to specific programs needed to perform their job or to present exams in real time using their own devices instead of moving to the computing room or any other specific place. The access has been extended to visitors as well.
“Cisco mobility solutions provide anywhere, anytime access to information and resources using any device under a secure and reliable environment,” said Rogelio Velasco, Vice President of Cisco Mexico. “Our Cisco Aironet technology will help the university to offer their population new ways of virtual collaboration work that will have an impact in their curricula.”
“It is possible to navigate and at the same time study and do research using the UP network. Cisco technology was chosen due to their innovation as well as the possibility to interconnect all our resources to obtain a higher performance, as well as implement other services such as wireless videoconferencing using mobile devices among others,” highlighted Lorenzo Elguea, CIO of the Universidad Panamericana Mexico City Campus.
Currently, there are 11,000 Wi-Fi users with 50,800 registered devices using the UP network.
The deployment of Cisco solutions was done by Grupo Eclipse, Cisco Partner Silver.
