[Davos, Switzerland, January 26, 2015]: Huawei Chairwoman of the Board, Sun Yafang, and King Philippe of Belgium met on January 22 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where they discussed issues related to information and communications technology (ICT) and Huawei’s contribution to the Belgian ICT industry.
Demonstrating Belgium’s growing role as a key European market for Huawei, the company announced a strategic partnership with Proximus, the largest of Belgium’s three mobile telecommunications companies on January 20. Through a program of joint innovation, the two companies will improve their ability to respond to the rapidly changing data and voice traffic needs of Proximus’ customers. The partnership aims to build a better mobile experience in Belgium, improving the digital experience for millions of users and contributing to bridging the digital divide.
Ms. Sun emphasized: “The Belgian ICT sector offers huge potential for win-win cooperation. Our collaboration with Belgian partners is part of our core strategy to build a sustainable business environment, further creating social, economic and technological value for Belgium.”
Due to the rapid development of ICT, digitization is becoming an engine for development across industry sectors. For example, e-health can improve the efficiency and reduce the cost of the healthcare industry; time and space pose no barriers to e-learning; and ICT brings more business opportunities and jobs to the economy. Huawei is working hard to help local partners reap the benefits of these trends, ensuring the long-term development of Belgium’s economy, society and environment.
In addition, Huawei launched its ‘Seeds for the Future’ initiative in 2014 and is working to nurture ICT talent and help tackle the challenges of an e-skills shortage. To date, Huawei has implemented this initiative in more than 20 countries around the world.
