Relationships Enhance Level 3’s DIA and IPVPN Services
BROOMFIELD, Colo., Oct 05, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) today announced that it has enhanced its managed services capabilities through a new agreement with Presidio Networked Solutions, a leading provider of professional and managed services solutions. Working with Presidio, Level 3 will leverage equipment from industry hardware vendors such as ADTRAN, Cisco, Fortinet, and Riverbed Technology in support of its managed services solutions.
Level 3’s Managed Services combines in-house and partner capabilities, allowing enterprise and government customers to focus on mission-critical objectives rather than service maintenance. Level 3’s goal is to continue to meet ever-changing customer networking needs through an improved portfolio of managed services capabilities.
“As most enterprises rethink their network architecture to support virtualization and cloud-based services, many will make the strategic decision that running networking hardware is not critical to ongoing revenue generation,” said Ted Chamberlin, research vice president at Gartner Inc. “Many will look to their incumbent carrier, infrastructure and IT services partners to provide that level of ongoing configuration and change management with aggressive, but relevant, service-level agreements.”
The agreement will boost Level 3’s managed services portfolio and enhance Level 3’s dedicated Internet access (DIA) and Internet Protocol virtual private network (IPVPN) services. Leveraging Presidio’s expertise, Level 3 is streamlining its fulfillment, provisioning, management and repair of customer premise equipment (CPE)-based services, including managed router, firewall, and wide area network (WAN) optimization. Additional options available with these services include intrusion detection service/intrusion prevention service (IDS/IPS) and secure access.
“We have seen increasing customer demand for first-rate managed services and all of these companies have been providing service in this arena for some time now,” said Russell Shriver, vice president of data and IP services for Level 3. “We realize that it takes more than just bandwidth for businesses to create value from the network. Leveraging these vendors’ experience in managed services, we will enable our customers to enjoy increased access to first-class network support, a more predictable IT budget and the assurance necessary to focus on core business objectives.”
Level 3 leverages its extensive fiber-optic network, metro assets, and a locally focused sales and sales support organization to deliver world-class services to enterprise customers and service providers throughout the United States.
