E7-20 enables gigabit speeds to 39,000 premises in some of Texas’ fastest growing communities
SMITHSON VALLEY, TX – June 18, 2014 – Calix, Inc. (NYSE:CALX, news, filings) today announced that GVTC Communications has deployed the Calix E7-20 Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP) and 700GE family of optical network terminals (ONTs) for the GVTC GigaRegion™ fiber network in cities of Boerne, Bulverde, and Gonzales, Texas. Based on gigabit passive optical network (GPON) technology, this expansive fiber network will bring high-bandwidth data speeds of one gigabit per second (Gbps) via 2200 miles of fiber to 39,000 homes, business, and anchor institutions just north of San Antonio. GVTC will offer voice, video, and security monitoring, along with high-speed data services throughout the GVTC GigaRegion™ beginning in September of 2014.
GVTC is a communications leader in south Texas, bringing fiber to the region ten years ago. Once again innovating with the GVTC GigaRegion™, GVTC has embarked on a unique public/private partnership with the municipalities of Boerne, Bulverde, and Gonzales, which are some of the fastest growing communities in the state.
