Mobile, Ala. — Fiber optic telecommunications company Southern Light has completed construction of the first phase of its metropolitan fiber optic network in Jacksonville, Fla. With a footprint exceeding 4,000 total route miles, Southern Light’s network now spans across the Gulf Coast states from Louisiana to the east coast of Florida. The company has already begun serving the networking needs of businesses and telecommunications carriers in this new market.
Jacksonville was a natural addition for Southern Light. “We saw a real need for the type of bandwidth services we provide in Jacksonville,” explained Southern Light’s President and CEO, Andy Newton. “Our current customer base has been pushing us to expand our services there for some time. Additionally, we are very excited about the overall economic climate in Jacksonville. It’s a rapidly growing economy and a great place to do business.” According to a study cited by the Jacksonville Business Journal, the city is expected to see economic growth of 4.8% in 2014 which translates to a projected $3.1 billion increase of gross metro product.
Southern Light has a rapidly growing footprint, having built 864 route miles of new fiber optic network in 2013 alone. Services provided to customers throughout the Southeast include wide area network solutions, high-bandwidth dedicated Internet access, cell tower backhaul, wireless infrastructure solutions, and colocation services.
