OCG Provides Dark Fiber Ring for DE-CIX New York
New York, NY (December 3, 2013) – Optical Communications Group (OCG), a leading fiber optic connectivity provider based in New York, announces today a new partnership with DE-CIX North America Inc., part of the DE-CIX group – the world’s largest Internet Exchange operator. As part of DE-CIX’s initiative to expand into North America, the company established a new open, carrier-neutral Internet exchange in New York City.
OCG will provide the dark fiber backbone for DE-CIX New York, including the service location at 325 Hudson, the carrier-neutral core interconnection facility strategically located on New York City’s fiber-dense crossroads of Hudson Street and the Holland Tunnel. Ready for service on November 13, DE-CIX New York currently consists of five Points of Presence (PoPs) across the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area. More service locations will be announced in the future.
Throughout the New York/New Jersey metro, DE-CIX New York will offer the same resilient service that successfully serves nearly 600 global networks in its Frankfurt exchange. With a growing list of customers, the company is building DE-CIX New York to be one of the five largest Internet exchanges in the world by 2020.
According to DE-CIX CTO Arnold Nipper, the partnership with OCG will help make this goal attainable.
“OCG has provided us with a dark fiber ring that covers all key facilities for DE-CIX New York,” explains Nipper. “Using the same robust setup we have used in Frankfurt for years, our initial backbone design will provide up to 320 Gbps of capacity that can be upgraded to support numerous terabits per second as demand dictates.”
Brad Ickes, founder of OCG, adds that his company is pleased to offer a presence at 325 Hudson, which gives companies like DE-CIX access to high-bandwidth, fiber optic transmission capacity.
