Cloudera Brings Its Big Data Platform and Services to Verizon Cloud as a High-Performing, Secure Data Analytics Engine
by Kevin King
NEW YORK — Verizon Enterprise Solutions today announced a collaboration with Cloudera, a leader in enterprise analytic data management powered by Apache Hadoop, to provide cloud-based big data analytics services to Verizon Cloud clients. Cloudera is the latest in a growing list of enterprise-class services being configured to run on the new Verizon Cloud, providing clients the flexibility to develop their own big data analytics applications based on the Apache Hadoop open source framework.
The newly released Cloudera Enterprise 5 — which includes CDH, Cloudera’s distribution of Apache Hadoop, Cloudera Manager and Cloudera Navigator — will run on top of Verizon’s high-performance cloud infrastructure. This will deliver fast, scalable and simple data management and analysis solutions to large and small organizations. A Cloudera distribution supporting billions of records can be deployed on the Verizon Cloud in a matter of hours – significantly faster than deployments on generic public clouds.
“Enterprises continue to invest heavily in cloud and managed services and they need big data solutions to be a part of these offerings,” said Mike Olson, chief strategy officer, Cloudera. “Verizon Cloud is an ideal fit for our big data platform and its unprecedented performance control will shorten time to insight for clients.”
Verizon’s focus is to bring the full power and functionality of enterprise-class technology to the cloud while providing clients control and flexibility over the environment. The company is developing an ecosystem of enterprise technologies that will be specifically built to run on Verizon’s new Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platform. Working with Cloudera to provide data management services in the cloud delivers on that promise and further builds the enterprise technology ecosystem surrounding Verizon Cloud.
“As more enterprises embrace the cloud, we are committed to working with our technology providers to develop an ecosystem of cloud-based services that run on Verizon Cloud and enhance overall business functions,” said John Harrobin chief marketing officer, Verizon Enterprise Solutions. “Cloudera has transformed how companies put big data in the cloud. The ability to identify, gather, store and share large amounts of data is one of the true benefits of cloud computing. Providing those capabilities on top of our high-performing, secure and scalable architecture strengthens the Verizon Cloud offering for our clients.”
Verizon Cloud was introduced in early October and will be available in public beta in the fourth quarter of 2013. Companies interested in using Verizon Cloud can sign up to be a beta customer through the Verizon Enterprise Solution website.
