BTI’s Solution Enables Comcentric Networking to Ease Provisioning, Future Proof the Network and Improve Performance for IP Video and Internet Data Traffic
OTTAWA and BOSTON – October 28, 2013
BTI Systems, the software and networking leader empowering content and service providers to capitalize on trends in cloud services, mobility and Internet video, today announced that Comcentric Networking has deployed BTI’s Metro Networking Solution to provide wavelength scalability, simplify operational complexities and ease the delivery of new services.
Comcentric Networking is a networking and communications leader with capabilities spanning optical, wireless, Internet and e-business. Comcentric serves approximately 20,000 area residents and businesses with high-speed data and Internet video solutions throughout Huron County along the shores of Lake Huron in Ontario Canada. Comcentric is a consortium of independent telecommunications companies including Hay Communications, HuronTel Communications, Tuckersmith Communications, Quadro Communications and Mornington Communications.
“We chose BTI as a strategic supplier to future proof our network, enable us to be more operationally efficient and to work with a partner with an extensive networking systems portfolio – all managed by a single software platform,” said Angela Schneider, General Manager at Hay Communications. “BTI’s advanced networking software and systems enable us to separate our IP video from the Internet data traffic and still run both on the same pair of fibers. We are able to scale the BTI network to forty 10G wavelengths providing us sufficient bandwidth to support our bandwidth needs for the foreseeable future. Additionally, the BTI Dynamic Optical Layer allows us to provision 10G wavelengths from any central office to any other without having to re-engineer the entire network, enabling us to quickly and easily deliver new services and support increased levels of traffic.”
The BTI 7000 Series forms the foundation for Comcentric’s deployment and is a compact, modular and easy-to-use packet optical networking system that provides dynamic scaling at the lowest cost per bit. The BTI 7000 Series Dynamic Optical Layer (DOL) helps address the explosion of high-bandwidth video and mobile broadband applications by increasing the agility of metro and regional area networks and operationally simplifying the delivery of Ethernet and wavelength services, video and Over-the-Top content to efficiently meet customer demands. The BTI DOL greatly enhances automation for Comcentric Networking with the reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexing (ROADM).
The BTI proNX Management and Control software removes multi-vendor, multi-layer complexity from the network and provides end-to-end network management to improve infrastructure efficiency, increase the rate of delivery of profitable high-value services and enable more highly scalable, flexible network solutions that readily adapt to changing business needs.
“A multi-carrier network presents challenges for the companies within the Consortium to remain flexible, efficient and ensure they are competitive to meet the escalating demands of customers downloading video and moving to cloud services,” said Tye Bragg, Vice President of Sales for North American Service Providers at BTI. “Understanding the importance of achieving any-to-any wavelength provisioning and the necessity to upgrade their network, they recognized the value of working with one supplier to immediately meet their requirements today and have the solutions for future upgrades, such as 100G. We are pleased to be working in partnership with Comcentric Networking as they scale their shared network and improve operations and performance.”
