AT&T* today announced an agreement that includes Rovi Corporation as the newest member of AT&T’s global MPEG-4 video licensing program. Specializing in digital entertainment, Rovi Corporation is a leading provider of innovative technology solutions for businesses.
Through the licensing agreement, Rovi Corporation will continue incorporating MPEG-4 video compression software into its technology offerings for its customers and consumer end-users.
MPEG-4 video compression serves as the industry standard for the delivery of video streaming to handsets, tablets and smart TVs, among other products with video capabilities. AT&T Labs-Research served as a key contributor and patent holder for the development of MPEG-4 video standards developed in part by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), which provides efficient compression for transmission and storage of video content.
