Leadership principles set forth by King Cyrus served as inspiration for original CyrusOne co-founder David Ferdman
Dallas, TX (May 1, 2013) –Global data center services provider CyrusOne (:CONE, news) today announced its sponsorship of the new “Cyrus Cylinder and Ancient Persia” exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Featuring the Cyrus Cylinder, one of the most famous objects to have survived from the ancient world, the exhibition is significant for CyrusOne’s original co-founder David Ferdman and Gary Wojtaszek, president and CEO of CyrusOne, because King Cyrus is the company’s namesake. King Cyrus, also known as Cyrus the Great, ruled ancient Persia.
“I learned about the Cyrus Cylinder while helping a young neighbor work on a school project,” explained Ferdman. “The leadership qualities of King Cyrus, which include self-reliance, generosity, brevity, loyalty, setting the example, respect, and service, were characteristics that I wanted my new company to embody. As a result, I named the company CyrusOne and incorporated the qualities and principles of King Cyrus into our core values and goals.”
Today, CyrusOne is known around the world as a preeminent provider of data center services. Its customers include nine of the global Fortune 20 companies and more than 100 of the Fortune 1000.
“CyrusOne has grown significantly from the company that Dave founded more than 10 years ago,” said Wojtaszek, “Our success is due in part to having a strong foundation of core values focused on helping large enterprise customers manage their global data center requirements with highly cost-efficient and flexible solutions.”
The Cyrus Cylinder and Ancient Persia
Dated 539 BC, the Cyrus Cylinder outlines a specific code of ethical behavior put forth by Persian King Cyrus the Great and is widely admired around the world. Inscribed in Babylonian cuneiform—the earliest form of writing—on the orders of King Cyrus, the Cyrus Cylinder is often referred to as the first bill of human rights. It was discovered in Babylon (now Iraq) in 1879 and has been on display at the British Museum ever since. The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is one of only a handful of venues in North America to host the Cyrus Cylinder and other rare objects that tell the story of innovations initiated by Persian rule in the Ancient Near East. The exhibition opens at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, on May 3 and runs through June 14.
Best-in-Class Facilities and Interconnectivity
During the last decade, CyrusOne has developed unique data center engineering capabilities to handle the highest-density computing environments in the industry. These high-performance data centers give customers the flexibility to leverage the most advanced server technology, accommodating 1,000 watts per square foot and higher, which in turn has enabled CyrusOne to become the leading technology provider for seismic exploration research and development.
Earlier this year, CyrusOne launched in Texas the first statewide Internet Exchange (IX) in the United States, connecting all major sites in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. Many of CyrusOne’s oil and gas customers have been attracted to the IX platform, as it provides for a secure and cost-effective way for companies to share the tremendous amount of data associated with the seismic exploration efforts that are being stored, analyzed, and shared in CyrusOne facilities.
CyrusOne operates 24 carrier-neutral data center facilities across the United States, Europe, and Asia that give customers the flexibility and scale to perfectly match their specific growth needs.
