[Shenzhen, China, March 18, 2013]: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, partnered with IXIA, an internationally renowned testing instrument manufacturer, announced the accomplishment of a Full Mesh forwarding performance test of Huawei CouldEngine 12800 series data center switches (CE12800 for short). The test result shows that the CE12800 is fully configured with Terabit line cards (24*40GE interfaces for a single line card), and no packet loss occurs during line-speed forwarding. This test verifies the industry-leading forwarding performance of the CE12800.
With the springing up of cloud computing, big data, social networking services (SNSs), and bring your own device (BYOD), traffic volumes in the data center increase rapidly. This requires more network capacity, especially data center core switches featuring larger switching capacities and higher forwarding performance. Upholding its commitment of “A Better Way”, Huawei Enterprise Business Group launched the next-generation data center switches CE12800 series, which features the highest performance in the industry. The CE12800 provides a switching capacity of 48Tbps (3 times the industry average) and 2Tbps bandwidth per slot (scalable to 4Tbps in the future) which is 4 times the industry average. In addition, the CE12800 satisfies the sustainable development of enterprise data center networks for the next decade, featuring comprehensive network virtualization, computing, storage, and network convergence.
In order to fully verify the high-speed forwarding performance of the CE12800, this Full Mesh test adopts different test plans for CE12804 and CE12808.
The CE12804 (four service slots) is configured with four line cards that provide the largest forwarding capacity in the industry (24*40GE interfaces). Bandwidth of a single line card reaches 960Gbps. The test result shows that the CE12804 is configured with 96*40GE interfaces, and no packet loss occurs during line-speed forwarding. Its bidirectional service traffic reaches up to 3.84Tbps. This test is the largest Full Mesh test for switches with 40GE interfaces in China. Accordingly, the CE12804 proves to be the only series of data center switches that has passed this test in China.
The CE12808 (eight service slots) is configured with eight line cards that provide the highest interface density in the industry (48*10GE interfaces). Bandwidth of a single line card reaches 480Gbps. The test result shows that the CE12808 is configured with 384*10GE interfaces, and no packet loss occurs during line-speed forwarding. Its bidirectional service traffic reaches up to 3.84Tbps. The forwarding capacity of high-density 10GE interfaces on the CE12800 is fully verified in the test.
Mr. Wei Zhang, general manager of Ixia China, said. “Through the Ixia solution’s ability to emulate large-scale and real-world environments, the strong performances of Huawei’s data center switches were proven. Ixia is committed to providing the necessary solutions to accelerate applications delivery and to validate networks for today’s media-rich services.”
Mr. Luyao Sun, General Manager of the Data Center Switch Product Field, Enterprise Networking Product Line, Huawei Enterprise Business Group, highly evaluated this test and said:”IXIA has long been one of our trusted partners. This forwarding performance test for 10GE and 40GE devices proves to be very successful, which shows that the CE12800 can fully satisfy our customers’ requirements for building a scalable, virtualized, and high-quality data center network in the cloud computing era.”
