We use the latest technology to reduce our energy use, from minimizing hot-spots to motion-sensor lighting, and do everything we can to make a significant, positive contribution to a climate-neutral environment. All these innovations together enable us to be a 100% carbon-neutral datacenter. But we’re not the only ones – many of our customers have the same sentiment, and as a result have begun to form a collective of like-minded organizations. These businesses are committed to corporate environmental responsibility and are working towards helping to reduce the 4.3 million tonnes of CO2 emissions that Europe generates each year. This is a huge figure and given that the IT industry accounts for 2% of global CO2 emissions – as much as global air traffic – it’s vital that we support our customers in working towards these targets.
The Green Fan program works to champion this philosophy. Datacenters traditionally account for almost a quarter of the globe’s IT carbon emissions. The Green Fan symbol is a hallmark, an industry standard. Our customers display it to demonstrate their commitment to environmental responsibility and carbon reductions in working with a carbon-neutral, sustainable datacenter. Through the Green fan, many different companies become a single entity working towards carbon footprint reduction through IT strategy. EU environmental policy has begun to focus heavily on business, with current targets set at reducing 20% of business carbon emissions by 2020 (when compared to 1990 levels). The ultimate aim of the Green Fan program is to help our customers to better meet compliance targets in line with EU legislation but also do their part for the environment. Our work has been awarded with a nomination for Best Green IT Company and commended by the German Federal Environment Ministry. All of this is represented by the three-leaf symbol.
Anyone who houses their IT infrastructure at EvoSwitch or uses one of our clients’ servers is entitled to use the Green Fan logo, and you can become part of the program too by simply contacting us.
