Session border controllers ensure VoIP interoperability while supporting peering and IP interconnects for Spain’s largest alternative communications service provider
BEDFORD, MA, SEPTEMBER 12, 2011—Acme Packet® (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session delivery networks, today announced that Jazztel, a leading telecommunications and data transmission carrier with its own infrastructure in Spain, has deployed Acme Packet Net-Net 4500 session border controllers (SBCs) to host IP PBX services for business customers, provide international wholesale peering services and in-country IP interconnects. Jazztel offers voice and data services to residential and business customers in Spain. Jazztel replaced legacy circuit-switched infrastructure with Acme Packet products as they scaled their IP communication service offerings.
“In the twelve years we have been in operation, we have progressively consolidated and expanded our service offering to now include wholesale VoIP, Internet, broadband and carrier’s carrier interconnects,” said Antonio Montero, Network Director at Jazztel. “We chose Acme Packet products for their flexibility to eliminate a wide variety of interoperability issues with softswitches and gateways used by our peering customers and with endpoints. As a result, we have also been able to provision peering service providers and business VoIP customers much faster.”
After years of offering small business VoIP services, Jazztel expanded their capabilities to support large enterprises through hosted IP PBX environments, replacing traditional time-division multiplexing (TDM) switches and converged TDM/IP media gateways under softswitch control with Acme Packet products in order to scale their business VoIP services.
“Jazztel has taken advantage of the latest IP communication technology and successfully monetized this investment across several business models,” said Dino Di Palma, Acme Packet’s senior vice president of worldwide sales and business development. “We worked closely with Jazztel on a technical level to help them scale both their retail and wholesale communication services.”
