ADTRAN Doubles FTTH Capacity and Delivers Service Flexibility

New Total Access 5000 FTTH Solution Simplifies Service Deployment for Active Ethernet and GPON Applications
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Sep 28, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) —

ADTRAN(R), Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN, news, filings), a leading provider of next-generation networking solutions, today announced that in an effort to better equip service providers to address the growing demand for FTTH expansion, the company has doubled the capacity of its flagship product, the Total Access(R) 5000, for Active Ethernet and GPON applications. Capable of supporting 5,376 GPON subscribers and 504 Active Ethernet subscribers per chassis, this new capability will enable its customers to quickly and cost-effectively scale Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) service offerings, easily tapping into the demand for high-value residential services including voice, data and video bundles, cloud-based services and advanced gaming. Complementing the Total Access 5000 Multi-Service Access and Aggregation Platform is a new family of universal ONTs which bring auto-sensing support for both Active Ethernet and GPON, simplifying deployments with a single ONT for both technologies.

“ADTRAN’s new additions to their FTTH portfolio and ability to support us long term were key deciding factors in our evaluation of solutions available in the market today,” said Richard Cavin, senior network manager, Valley Telephone (VTCI). “The added scalability and density of the Total Access 5000 with the new 24-port Active Ethernet module made it a perfect fit for our project, allowing VTCI to reach twice as many customers from a single chassis without adding any additional complexity to our network.”

FTTH rollouts vary widely, by carrier type and by region, across the country and around the world creating the need for a product with the flexibility and scalability delivered by ADTRAN’s Total Access 5000. The addition of a 24-port single slot Active Ethernet card positions the Total Access 5000 as the industry’s highest density Ethernet FTTH service delivery platform. The Ethernet and GPON FTTH density, combined with the flexibility of the auto-sensing Total Access line of universal ONTs, makes this an ideal solution for service providers that need better performance and efficient service capabilities.

“Carriers today are dealing with increasing competition, rising operational costs and demand for high-bandwidth, media-rich services. ADTRAN is focused on providing our customers with products and services to address these concerns,” said Darrell Brown, product line manager, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. “Over the past year, the Total Access 5000 has become the ‘go to’ platform for carriers seeking a more flexible, reliable and scalable broadband deployment option, making it one of the most sought after solutions for FTTH deployments on the market today.”
