Partnership combines one of Brazil’s most extensive fiber backbone networks with the world’s largest Internet Exchange ecosystem
São Paulo (Brazil). As DE-CIX, the world’s leading Internet Exchange (IX) operator, marks its first year of commercial operations (ready for service) in Brazil, the company announces a new partnership with Eletronet, an Axia Energia company, reference in telecommunications and IT. In practical terms, the partnership brings together one of Brazil’s most extensive optical fiber backbone networks with the world’s largest interconnection ecosystem.
Eletronet operates 18,000 kilometers of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) fiber network and 170 Edge Data Centers distributed across 18 Brazilian states, while also providing connectivity to 36 of Brazil’s leading data centers. With this extensive footprint and robust connectivity services, the company delivers multiple redundant routes and greater resilience for telecommunications operators, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), data centers, and hyperscalers throughout the country. As part of its expansion plan, Eletronet will extend its network to 26,000 kilometers of routes and 255 Edge Data Centers across 23 states in every region of Brazil. Through the partnership, its customers will gain direct access to DE-CIX’s global ecosystem of networks, cloud providers, and digital platforms, enabling lower-latency connectivity, improved network performance, and greater operational resilience.
Under the agreement, Eletronet joins the DE-CIX R³ (Resell–Refer–Reach) Partner Program as a Standard Reseller Partner, enabling the company to offer the full portfolio of DE-CIX interconnection services to its customers, including peering, cloud connectivity, and remote interconnection solutions, supported by dedicated assistance and flexible partnership models.
By combining Eletronet’s extensive national infrastructure with DE-CIX’s global interconnection ecosystem, the partnership expands interconnection opportunities for Brazilian businesses, providing direct access to cloud providers, digital platforms, and thousands of networks. The result is more efficient, resilient connectivity that is well equipped to support increasingly distributed and latency-sensitive applications, such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and streaming.
Digital maturity
The partnership comes at a time when Brazil is strengthening its position as Latin America’s largest and most mature digital economy. With around 8,500 Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs), the country continues to experience growing demand for cloud services, artificial intelligence, streaming, and enterprise digitalization. As these applications become increasingly distributed and latency-sensitive, direct interconnection is playing an increasingly strategic role in Brazil’s digital infrastructure.
“Brazil already has one of the world’s most dynamic Internet ecosystems. The next phase of this growth is about connecting an increasing number of regional networks to this ecosystem, ensuring direct, low-latency access to cloud platforms, artificial intelligence services, and global digital providers,” says Natália Inácio, Partner Program Manager at DE-CIX Brazil. “Together, we are expanding the reach of the DE-CIX ecosystem, helping our customers increase resilience, keep traffic local whenever possible, and prepare for the growing demand driven by AI, streaming, and other data-intensive applications.”
“At Eletronet, we provide highly reliable, stable, and redundant connectivity to drive Brazil’s digital development,” says Cassio Lehmann, Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) of Eletronet. In the executive’s view, the company places innovation at the center of its strategy by investing in infrastructure and delivering solutions that make a real difference in the market. “Our partnership with DE-CIX expands Eletronet’s portfolio with a new offering designed to meet the needs of Internet Service Providers. By providing access to differentiated content, platforms, and digital services, we create new opportunities for ISPs to enhance their services, serve their customers more efficiently, and develop new business models. In doing so, we go beyond expanding our portfolio and we further increase the value we deliver to the market, in addition to strengthening our role within the digital ecosystem and reaffirming our commitment to supporting sustainable growth, competitiveness, and innovation across Brazilian businesses.”
One year of DE-CIX Brazil
As it completes one year of operations in Brazil, DE-CIX has already achieved its first-year target, with more than 80 connected networks. More than 25% of these joined through the DE-CIX R³ Partner Program, highlighting the growing importance of local partnerships in expanding Brazil’s interconnection ecosystem.
Since launching operations in 2025, DE-CIX Brazil has established a neutral and distributed platform connecting São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, with direct links to North America and Europe. Designed to support high-capacity 100 GE and 400 GE connections, the platform enables customers to connect to thousands of local, regional, and international networks, cloud providers, and digital platforms, meeting the growing demands of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and other data-intensive workloads.
