Telesign and Bancontact Company partner to prevent payment fraud in the Bancontact Pay app

Real-time Anti-fraud Intelligence solution helps identify fake and potentially fraudulent accounts, keeping online shopping seamless and secure for everyday users.

Brussels – August 13th, 2026 Telesign, a Proximus Global company and a leader in digital identity and programmable communications, has partnered with Bancontact Company, Belgium’s dominant domestic payment company. The partnership integrates Telesign’s newly launched Anti-fraud Intelligence platform to deliver real-time risk insights, reinforcing security of the Bancontact Pay app.

Online fraud continues to be a major challenge for brands. According to a recent study, 85% of digital users will stop engaging with a brand after a fraud incident. Additionally, 57% of victims request refunds, and 43% warn friends and family about the brand.

The partnership aims to safeguard Bancontact Company’s reputation and customer trust in the Bancontact Pay app by utilizing Telesign’s easily integrated API-based solution during new user registrations and major account changes. The Intelligence solution offers real-time risk scoring, behavioral analysis, and domain-level insights to help businesses quickly detect and prevent fraud. It leverages a continuously improving machine learning model that draws on over 15 years of fraud patterns, based on digital identity insights and behavioral risk patterns. This will provide Bancontact Pay with instant recommendations supporting the company’s automated decision-making.

Gregor Potocar, President Protect & Engage, Proximus Global commented: “Fraud is an ever-growing industry challenge that requires the best technical solutions to protect customers. By combining critical digital identifiers into a single risk recommendation, we are determined to give enterprises the market-leading infrastructure they need to secure trust during registration. We are delighted to partner with Bancontact Company and equip their payment ecosystem with the latest anti-fraud technology, while delivering a frictionless user experience.”

By analyzing multiple risk signals and behavioral patterns behind the scenes, the integration creates an additional barrier against bad actors attempting to create fraudulent accounts and cause financial harm within the Bancontact Pay app.

Nathalie Vandepeute, CEO, Bancontact Company said: “Safety and ease of use are at the heart of the Bancontact Pay experience. Partnering with Telesign strengthens our ability to detect and stop sophisticated fraud attempts at the digital front door, without adding unnecessary friction for the people who rely on our services. By preventing bad actors from causing harm, we are ensuring our ecosystem remains both highly secure and seamlessly fast.”

Importantly, this background protection preserves a seamless user experience and does not interfere with Bancontact Pay’s app customer journey. By deploying automated risk recommendations, Bancontact Pay can maintain strong fraud prevention while legitimate users continue to enjoy a fast, frictionless experience.

This collaboration builds on Bancontact Company’s existing relationship with BICS, headquartered in Belgium and also a Proximus Global company, who provide the critical SMS infrastructure that supports the Bancontact Pay app.
