KIO Data Centers to Quadruple Capacity with Second Guatemala Facility

GUATEMALA CITY, GUATEMALA — [September 26, 2025] – KIO Data Centers, a leading data center operator with an interconnected ecosystem across Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic, today announced its plan to open a second data center in Guatemala. This strategic investment will quadruple KIO’s installed capacity in the country, further reinforcing its role in Latin America’s digital transformation.

Enhancing Central American Connectivity

The new facility will provide businesses in Central America with access to a state-of-the-art, carrier-neutral infrastructure designed for the demands of cloud computing and AI. It will deliver the secure and scalable solutions necessary to support clients’ innovation and digital transformation efforts. The data center will reside next to the existing KIO GTM1 facility in Technology Park (Campus TEC Guatemala), an area known to serve global tech companies. The strategic location allows the new site to automatically extend connectivity to the 19 carriers already in the ecosystem, enhancing the foundation of GTM1.

“Our second Guatemala data center is a testament to KIO’s commitment to the Central American market and our clients’ success,” said KIO CEO Octavio Camerena. “By expanding our capacity and investing in AI-ready infrastructure, we are not only supporting the current needs of our clients but also preparing the region for the future of technology.”

Facility and Sustainability Highlights:

  • MW Capacity: The design includes two initial rooms of 500 kW each, with the potential to grow to two additional 500 kW rooms, for a total IT load capacity of 2 MW.
  • Location & Connectivity: The new facility will be built on the same campus as GTM1. An interconnection between GTM1 and GTM2 will provide access to 19 network providers.
  • Sustainability & Innovation: The facility is projected to use 80% renewable energy and has a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) target of 1.5. The initial cooling will be provided by perimeter CRAH units with airflow through a raised floor, supporting power densities of 5 kW, 8 kW, and up to a maximum of 12 kW per cabinet.
  • Certifications: While the new site will operate with the highest standards, KIO plans to pursue Tier III Facility certification. Other planned certifications include SSAE18, ISO 27001, and PCI-DSS, which are particularly relevant for financial sector clients.

As a leader in the region, KIO is committed to providing world-class infrastructure that empowers businesses across Latin America. This expansion is part of KIO’s broader growth strategy to meet the increasing demand for high-performance, secure, and sustainable data center solutions.
