Segra, one of the nation’s largest independent fiber network companies, today announced a 10-year agreement with the City of Temple, Texas, to deliver dark and lit fiber-optic services that will strengthen municipal connectivity and improve resiliency across the city’s operations.
The contract, unanimously approved by the Temple City Council, will modernize and expand network capabilities for 23 critical city facilities, including City Hall, multiple fire stations, the Mayborn Convention Center and the Lions Junction Family Water Park. Under the agreement, Segra will replace the city’s legacy broadband solution, ensuring consistent speeds to support essential public services.
Segra’s deployment includes both dark and lit fiber. Dark fiber allows the city to directly manage its own bandwidth through optical modules, while lit fiber delivers fully managed service supported by Segra’s network operations. Together, these options give Temple flexibility to meet both current and future needs.
In addition to the 23 core sites, Segra will extend lit fiber services to four additional strategic locations, including the airport and three additional fire stations. These sites will be served via Segra’s existing Belton fiber ring, which will connect to Temple’s new fiber ring. This innovative dual-ring setup establishes a resilient infrastructure with separate pathways to each location, ensuring maximum uptime and redundancy.
Segra’s solution standardizes connectivity across all sites, introduces backup links for redundancy and delivers the scalability required to serve first responders, city management and community facilities.
“We are pleased to partner with the City of Temple to provide the high-speed, reliable fiber infrastructure needed to support its growing population and evolving digital demands,” said Cliff McDow, Regional Vice President of Enterprise Sales at Segra. “Our expertise in dark fiber and comprehensive lit services ensures that Temple’s city facilities will have the advanced connectivity required for efficient operations and future growth. This collaboration underscores our commitment to empowering communities with best-in-class network solutions.”
The transition to Segra’s services is anticipated to be completed by February 2026.
