In honor of National Read a Book Day, Brightspeed and national literacy organization spotlight first of nearly a dozen book-sharing box installations in NC, bringing books and broadband to underserved communities
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – September 4, 2025 – Today, Brightspeed, one of the nation’s largest fiber broadband builders focused on empowering more homes and businesses with ultrafast, reliable internet, is celebrating a new book-sharing collaboration in North Carolina, which will result in 11 Little Free Libraries across the state, with the first in Rocky Mount. This announcement comes just days before National Read a Book Day on September 6th, which encourages everyone to pick up a book and read.
This statewide installation of a book-sharing box is part of Brightspeed’s national initiative to bridge both the digital and literacy divides by sponsoring Little Free Libraries in 28 underserved cities across 20 states. Together with Little Free Library, Brightspeed is working to bring books to communities known as “book deserts,” where access to reading materials is limited.
“Books have the power to spark imagination and build connections,” said Lynne Carmichael, the Rocky Mount Little Free Library Steward who helps maintain the box in her community. “Our neighborhood loves seeing fresh titles pop up, and this partnership means even more families have access to the joy of reading and sharing in that passion together.”
As Brightspeed continues expanding its fiber internet footprint in the region, connecting people to education, remote work, and healthcare, this partnership with Little Free Library further underscores the company’s investment in the communities it serves. Once complete, Brightspeed’s fiber network will reach more than 30,000 local homes and businesses in Rocky Mount and across Nash County, and more than 108,000 North Carolinians across 55 counties.
“Partnering with Little Free Library is a natural extension of our mission. We believe true connectivity goes beyond just providing fast internet; it’s about fostering connections within our communities,” said Sabrina Anderson, local marketing manager at Brightspeed. “Strong communities start with access to knowledge, and with these libraries, we’re helping make books accessible to everyone, one library at a time.”
Beyond Rocky Mount, the book-sharing boxes will be placed through LFL’s Impact Library Program, which grants book-sharing boxes and books to communities most in need. Brightspeed plans to sponsor additional Little Free Libraries in the following North Carolina communities:
· Asheboro, N.C.
· Clinton, N.C.
· Dunn, N.C.
· Eden, N.C.
· Henderson, N.C.
· Kinston, N.C.
· Oxford, N.C.
· Roanoke Rapids, N.C.
· Siler City, N.C.
