90+ Miles of New Southfield-to-Lansing Fiber Goes Live

Southfield, Michigan, July 21, 2025 – A new 90-mile underground fiber route connecting Southfield to Lansing is now complete, delivering enhanced speed, redundancy and improved connectivity across southeast and mid-Michigan. This privately funded, multi-million-dollar project was developed by three Michigan-based telecommunications leaders: 123NET, DayStarr Communications and Peninsula Fiber Network (PFN) and was delivered on time and on budget.

The newly activated fiber route strengthens Michigan’s telecommunications infrastructure, improving middle-mile capacity and supporting critical network diversity between major population centers. Communities along the route, including Lansing, Okemos, Williamston, Webberville, Fowlerville, Howell, Brighton, Novi and Livonia, stand to benefit from increased reliability and access.

“Fast, reliable internet depends on diverse network paths,” said Chuck Irvin, Chief Resource Officer at 123NET. “Together with PFN and DayStarr, we’ve established a new route anchored in our Southfield data center and extending to Michigan’s capital. This collective effort significantly strengthens the state’s internet backbone.”

The project partners include 123NET, Michigan’s premier provider of fiber internet, colocation, and voice services; DayStarr Communications, based in Owosso, MI, offering high-speed internet and phone services and Peninsula Fiber Network (PFN), headquartered in Marquette, MI, delivering network, NG911, and core infrastructure services across Michigan and Wisconsin.

“Continued investment in Michigan’s telecommunications infrastructure is both prudent and necessary,” said Scott Randall, General Manager of PFN. “We’re proud to partner with 123NET and DayStarr to improve connectivity and support Michigan’s goal of universal broadband access for all residents and businesses.”

A core focus of the partnership is to expand high-speed internet access in underserved and unserved areas, fostering digital equity across the region. The new fiber route lays the groundwork for future connectivity projects and public-private collaborations.

Collin Rose, President of DayStarr, added, “We’re proud to work alongside two innovative Michigan companies to collectively deliver high-performance internet capacity for both business and residential users. Our mission is to improve lives through better communications and this project demonstrates what’s possible when providers unite to make an impact.”

Businesses and municipalities along the route are encouraged to contact 123NET, PFN, or DayStarr for service availability on this route. For more information, please visit www.123.net, www.pfnllc.net, and www.daystarr.net.
